The relationship between malnutrition, a weakened immune system, and TB infection in children poses a significant public health challenge in Delta Fly District, Western Province. Malnutrition impairs immune function, making children more susceptible to TB, while TB worsens malnutrition by increasing metabolic demands and reducing appetite. Effective management requires an all-inclusive approach that addresses both nutritional deficiencies and infectious disease aspects. This includes providing adequate nutrition, improving living conditions, ensuring early diagnosis and treatment of TB, and offering ongoing medical support. Such an integrated strategy is crucial to enhance health outcomes and reduce the burden of TB in vulnerable pediatric populations. Through our BEAN Project and our valued partners in the district – #DAL, #WPHA, and #ECPNG, together with our beneficiaries and Village Health Assistants (VHA), we are working closely to alleviate this issue for the most vulnerable children with much-appreciated funding support from the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP). It makes sense for the governments to #BanPHO and thus eliminate industrial TFAs (trans fats) from the food supply to cost-effectively protect the health of its people against the epidemic of non-communicable diseases such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, cancers, and many others. #Pakistan must take steps to eliminate TFAs from food supplies since it is vulnerable to high disease burden attributable to iTFAs. The increasing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in Kenya is alarming. To combat this growing epidemic, we must take immediate action to regulate trans fats in our food supply. Trans fats are known to increase the risk of heart disease by raising bad cholesterol levels and lowering good cholesterol levels. Policymakers, it's time to act! Implementing strict regulations on trans fats will significantly improve the heart health of our nation. #TransFatFreeKenya #TransFatFreeEAC International Institute For Legislative Affairs

Cholera Outbreak And Suggested Precautions From The ROHSI Team! Hello friends and community members! We are aware of the current outbreak of cholera (an acute diarrheal infection caused by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae) in some states of the Federation that has killed certain numbers of people. At ROHSI, we understand that cholera remains a global threat to public health and an indicator of inequity and a lack of social development, which governments and international bodies need to really work on. Today we are asking every one of our members to please take caution and not assume that, since it's not happening around where they reside, they shouldn't see it as something important. Today, we are asking! Please look at some important health precautions that can help guide you through the current cholera outbreak. • Drink safe water! Boil all the water for at least a minute before consumption. • Practice good hygiene! Wash hands frequently with soap and clean water, especially after using the toilet and before eating. • Avoid untreated water sources! Don't drink from rivers, streams, and ponds. • Cook food thoroughly! Cook your food at home and reduce the frequency of buying from outside for now, and in case you still need to get your foods from those 'food joints ‘, ensure that they are well-cooked before eating. • Proper waste disposal! Dispose of all sewage and waste properly to prevent contamination. • Be aware of symptoms! Watch out for watery diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration, which are all signs of cholera. Once it's more than once, please call for help. • Seek medical attention immediately! If you experience any cholera symptoms, consult a healthcare provider right away. Also, stay informed! Follow updates from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the state, and local health authorities for the latest information on the outbreak. We care for your health and well-being. That is why we are ROHSI. #Rohsi3 #WHO #Nigeria #Ibadan #FMoH #NCDC #Africa #WHO_Africa #WHO_Nigeria #healthyleaving

"Undernutrition probably increases the risk of TB two‐fold in the short term (< 10 years) and may also increase the risk in the long term (> 10 years). Policies targeted towards the reduction of the burden of undernutrition are not only needed to alleviate human suffering due to undernutrition and its many adverse consequences, but are also an important part of the critical measures for ending the TB epidemic by 2030" https://lnkd.in/e4CBAJnr

🍲 HEALTHY LIFE: Addressing undernutrition risk factors among schoolchildren 🧒 Childhood undernutrition among schoolchildren is a critical issue that needs attention, underscores a recent study, led by scientists from Ifakara Health Institute in collaboration with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and the University of Basel. 🏫 The study, carried out in 2019, involved 930 schoolchildren aged 6–12 from four public primary schools in Kilombero District, southeastern Tanzania. The findings revealed alarming rates of both undernutrition and overweight/obesity among these children. 🤸🏾To tackle this issue, the scientists emphasized in their study published on the Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases journal, the importance of implementing interventions such as promoting physical activity and nutritious diets within schools. >> https://lnkd.in/eetPP8CJ >> #IFAKARAnews #IFAKARAresearch

Cholera Alert: Safeguarding Communities Through Awareness and Action! Cholera remains a critical global health concern, affecting numerous states worldwide. This waterborne disease is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, primarily transmitted through contaminated water and food. #Causes: Cholera spreads swiftly in areas with inadequate sanitation, often thriving in communities lacking access to clean water and proper hygiene facilities. Consumption of contaminated food or water is the main route of transmission. #Prevention: Effective prevention strategies include: 1. Safe Water and Sanitation: Ensuring access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities. 2. Hygiene Education: Promoting hand washing with soap, especially before eating and after using the toilet. 3. Vaccination: In endemic areas, vaccination campaigns can provide crucial protection. #Treatment: Immediate rehydration using oral rehydration salts (ORS) is vital to managing cholera cases. In severe cases, intravenous fluids and antibiotics may be necessary. Early detection and prompt treatment can significantly reduce mortality rates. #GlobalImpact: Cholera affects numerous states across different continents, with vulnerable populations often bearing the brunt. Timely intervention through public health measures and community engagement is crucial in controlling outbreaks and preventing further spread. Join us in spreading awareness about cholera and supporting efforts to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all. Together, we can make a difference in combating this preventable disease. Let's work towards a healthier, cholera-free world! #CholeraAwareness #CleanWaterForAll #HealthForAll
