World Vision Papua New Guinea’s Post

The relationship between malnutrition, a weakened immune system, and TB infection in children poses a significant public health challenge in Delta Fly District, Western Province. Malnutrition impairs immune function, making children more susceptible to TB, while TB worsens malnutrition by increasing metabolic demands and reducing appetite. Effective management requires an all-inclusive approach that addresses both nutritional deficiencies and infectious disease aspects. This includes providing adequate nutrition, improving living conditions, ensuring early diagnosis and treatment of TB, and offering ongoing medical support. Such an integrated strategy is crucial to enhance health outcomes and reduce the burden of TB in vulnerable pediatric populations. Through our BEAN Project and our valued partners in the district – #DAL, #WPHA, and #ECPNG, together with our beneficiaries and Village Health Assistants (VHA), we are working closely to alleviate this issue for the most vulnerable children with much-appreciated funding support from the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).
