Despite heightened citizen engagement in the 2023 general election, women’s representation in the National Assembly dropped by 19% compared to the previous term. Although there’s a noticeable increase in women’s representation in subnational governments, their achievements often receive less publicity. The remarkable story of Chineloma Eleodimuo, who made history as UNIBEN’s first female Student Union Government (SUG) President is one of such. As we wrap up Women’s History Month, let’s remember that supporting and celebrating women goes beyond a single month. #womenshistory #iwd2024 #uniben #womenparticipationinpolitics #videooftheday

Violent behavior begins in the mind. Thoughts and beliefs will often be expressed in word or deed. Persons holding violent thoughts towards others (violence being along a spectrum and not only physical) will usually express those to someone, perhaps hiding behind a keyboard. The more we are aware and listen with intention, the more likely we are able to intervene or take proactive steps, whatever that may look like. Gender based violence begins in the mind. Listen with intent. Remembering.
On December 6, 1989, 14 people were murdered at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal because they were women. Today we remember those who have experienced gender-based violence and those we have lost to it. We will not forget. https://bit.ly/3Gx1KM4

Few things I love sports, I engage myself and enjoy sports coz its a continuous learning path. You learn more about yourself you develop habits you might not even notice such as: 1. You become goal oriented🎯 Avoiding distractions and keeping your head on the game, that's a discipline. 2. You take failures as fuels.🏋♀️ Loosing the game doesn't define you as a failure. It developed your patience. You just need to keep up and learn more from others. Go back to #1 focus on your goals. and, 3. You develop more trust to God👆 You focus on your goals, your not a failure by loosing the game and you trust God for that. You trust him that next time you'll gonna win the game with all those exerted efforts and preparations you've made its all for him. Whatever sports you choose, with him, nothing is impossible. We become more successful in life developing those good habits in our life.🏆🏆🏆 #HappySunday #Justdoit

The research report of the project 'Lifting Barriers to Gender Equity in the Australian Construction Industry' is out now. Please access it through the below link. This report is the primary outcome of an extensive research carried out utilising a survey with the participation of 441 females across the Australian construction industry and 8 focus group discussions. This report provides recommendations for improving gender equity across 6 areas namely: Recruitment, Policy Formation, Policy Monitoring and Controlling, Industry Practice, Education and Social Networks related to organisational and industry levels in the construction industry. This report specifically discusses different barriers to gender equity of females seperately for different work categories such managerial workers, professional workers, clerical and administration workers, trades workers, operators and labourers. I am thankful to National Association of Women in Construction (AU) for funding this important area of research and Prof.Raufdeen Rameezdeen for being my mentor and Maheshi Tennakoon and Gihan Tennakoon for being the research assistants. This project would have not been a success without all of your contributions, which I gratefully appreciate.
In 2023, we announced Dr Aparna Samaraweera as the 2023 NAWIC International Women's Day Scholarship recipient, valued at $20,000. Dr Aparna's proposal was chosen as her research is meaningful to a range of participants in the industry, and is in alignment with NAWIC values and will present robust ideas to challenge the industry. We want to thank Dr Aparna Samaraweera and her dedication to the construction industry and her research over the past year.
