A few observations regarding the merging of design styles in financial services...
PayPal keeping the old italicised 'PP' icon feels like a misstep, or perhaps a case of laziness. Or maybe I'm jumping the gun and it’s actually in production as we speak? I certainly hope so. Regardless, the inconsistency and jarring combination of two very different typographic treatments is uncomfortable to witness and should have been avoided.
WISE leads the way in beautiful visual design within banking. Their rebrand from TransferWise to simply WISE in February 2021 was a masterstroke, and the full visual overhaul in March 2023 was the perfect finishing touch. Since then, many financial service organisations have followed suit, or at least taken inspiration. Kudos to https://lnkd.in/e5r_v6r7 for their work, and to WISE for embedding design into the core of their organisation https://wise.design/.
I have no doubt that Revolut will continue to refine and elevate their visual identity, as they’ve done over recent years, by introducing colour, human-centric photography, and 3D illustration into their digital presence – and I’m glad to see this evolution.

I think the rebranding efforts of PayPal, Revolut, and Wise are indeed starting to make them look similar, but I also see it as a natural evolution in the FinTech industry. As these companies continue to grow and expand their services, it's only natural that their visual brand strategies would start to converge.
That being said, I do think it's essential for each brand to maintain its unique identity and differentiate itself from the competition. Aistė G.'s analysis provides some valuable insights into the visual brand strategies of these FinTech giants, and it's worth considering how each brand can balance the need for consistency with the need for differentiation.
As for my favorite brand, I have to say that I'm a fan of Revolut's bold and modern approach to banking. Their app is user-friendly, and their services are innovative and convenient. However, I'm also interested in seeing how PayPal's rebranding efforts will play out in the long run.

I just finished reading detailed case studies of PayPal and Wise ‘s brand design and this post appears. Looks like new trend is settling down for the Fintech brands across the globe when it comes to brand identity.
I’d not be surprised if PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm has already undergoing works towards the same direction.
