Three of the most important things to consider when recruiting engineers. 1) Be able to clearly articulate WHY an engineer should work for you (so many employers can't do this!!) 2) Make sure the candidate experience is bang on, personalised, and doesn't have unnecessary barriers. 3) Act fast - if you come across someone good interview them immediately! The employers I'm working with that don't struggle to recruit have these three points nailed. The ones that can't recruit usually offer a really poor candidate experience or hide behind excuses such as being too busy, or 'we can't compete with other employers in the area'. If you don't have time to recruit, then seek support. However, if you do seek support, make sure there is urgency in the process or it won't work.

There is a scarcity of engineers across almost all disciplines in Australia. Recruiting for one can be tough, particularly if there is a reluctance to be flexible around the 'ideal' profile. Hiring managers often talk about hiring based on "attitude", rather than being too fixed on their technical experience, as a way to combat the skills shortage....but what does "attitude" actually mean to you? Have you made a conscious effort to determine the key behaviours that align with the role? Then how are you uncovering this during your recruitment process? 3 key elements of a recruitment process that will help uncover behavioural alignment are: 1. Behavioural-based interviews (e.g. "provide me an example of a time when...") 2. Personality and preference-based profiling 3.
