🇱🇦 It's #TravelTuesday here at World Fertilizer and this week we are heading to Laos, China and India! 🌏 In our new July/August issue, David Riley, Argus Media, reflects on the factors that drove the global potash market to extremes over the past three years, and the structural changes that could continue to shape the market in the years ahead. 💬 "The general outlook for potash in the near- and medium-term is for less volatile pricing than experienced over the past three years. Prices should remain similar to current levels even as demand returns on better affordability, as unlocked supply from Russia and Belarus, combined with rising production in Laos, creates enough flexibility to respond to higher demand or limited supply shocks." The current global situation of sweet corn is as follows: 1. Production: Sweet corn production is increasing in many countries, such as the U.S., China, and Thailand, which are the major exporters, particularly in frozen and canned forms. 2. Demand: Global demand for sweet corn continues to grow, both for ready-to-eat products and processed goods. 3. Challenges: Environmental issues, such as droughts, pests, and diseases, as well as logistical problems, have impacted production and exports. 4. Future trends: The sweet corn market is expected to grow, especially in developing countries. However, producers need to adapt for more sustainable production to meet the rising demand. #Thailand

My LinkedIn friend shared this information with me about the rice market situation in Vietnam, Thailand, India, and Bangladesh. I cannot assess the rice market in other countries, but in the Vietnamese rice market, the price of 5% broken rice has increased. Last week I quoted FOB $590-$595 per ton, but it is FOB $610-$620 per ton for this week. The source of raw rice from farmers has been nearly fully deposited and purchased, and farmers are planning for the summer-autumn crop with lower yield and quality compared to the winter-spring crop. With this situation, the price of Vietnamese rice is likely to stabilize or increase, making it difficult to continue decreasing as expected 04.03.2024 #ricenews #manufacturer #exporter #tvfood

China has been ramping up its grain output—with no end in sight. An “Action Plan for a New Round of Capacity Expansion of 50 million Tons of Grains (2024-2030)” was recently approved by the State Council. This is in addition to China’s annual grain output redline of 650 million tons, raising China’s total target for 2024 to a mind-boggling 700 million tons. From today's perspective, it almost seems surreal that, back in 1980, China's annual grain output stood at little more than 350 million tons. Is this doubling of grain production really achievable? And will it be sustainable? We will be watching closely. About the action plan: https://lnkd.in/dqjF27fy

Ukraine. Competition for sunseed will increase, there is not enough raw material for processing The sunflower seeds harvest in 2024 is difficult to predict precisely, but we can expect the volumes at the level of 12.8 mln tonnes. This was reported to AgroPortal.ua by Stepan Kapshuk, the Director of Ukroliyaprom Association. “It is difficult to estimate, because the area under sunflower is 4.8-4.9 mln ha, and we expected 5.2 mln ha. It will be possible to make a more accurate forecast after the first results from the regions, which will help determine the yield,” explains Stepan Kapshuk. According to him, the export of sunseed will vary within 250 thsd tonnes, which will be influenced by the price segment. Competition for sunflower will increase, as there is not enough raw material for processing. “It is more profitable to export processed sunseed immediately, but we currently have the capacity to process 18-19 mln tonnes of oilseeds, so there is not enough raw material. Exports will also be affected by the energy situation and the current winter, which may make significant adjustments to the overall operation of the facilities,” says Stepan Kapshuk.
