Calling all entrepreneurs and small to mid-sized business owners This article puts the case forward for why business owners must consider the value and strategic purpose of thought leadership. In my line of work, I see several reasons why businesses choose not to get involved in putting forward thought leadership, in no particular order below: 1. short-term focus 2. competing priorities 3. skills gaps 4. general reluctance to be 'out there' Thought leadership can be such a powerful way to establish yourself with a broader audience, strengthen your tribe of followers, and amplify key messages. When does a person who runs call themselves a runner? When does a person who writes call themselves a writer? When does a person who speaks call themselves a speaker? When does a person who tinkers call themselves an entrepreneur? Typically, we wait around for others to tell us what we are --> how others view us and we adopt this as part of our identity. I've got a bolder idea. Why wait? If you're doing it, you are it. Think of all the confidence and courage you're denying yourself if you're waiting for others to see you for all your glory. That's my message today: BE THE PERSON YOU ARE. Take the title you want, claim it, and own it in a way that only you can. Don't obsess about what the outside world thinks of you.
