A road less travelled…for a soccer guy :-) Why go to the Consumer Electric Show in Vegas #CES and the United Soccer Coaches in the same week? Innovation and change are happening in real time, and all around us. The purpose of attending a show like CES is not necessarily the innovative products or services on show, as amazing as they are, it’s the collective cognitive horsepower that sits behind them that I find fascinating. Being exposed to completely new perspectives and innovative approaches to problem solving can help you “challenge what you think you know, and be curious about what you don’t.” (Thank you Adam Grant!). COPA Soccer Training Center are currently exploring new depths of Talent ID and player development that requires a curious an open mind. Our Research and Science partnership with TSG hoffenheim and their team of PhD’s (press release coming soon!) is primed to explore impactful, measurable methods of talent ID, predicting potential, and exploring the pursuit of high performance. Couple this kind of exposure with the completion of a recent masters degree in sporting directorship with VSI Executive Education & Global Institute of Sport, I urge aspirational future Coaches, Technical Directors, and Sporting Directors to explore the road less travelled in search of achieving and surpassing their potential. Coaching licenses are important, no question, but looking for marginal gains in places that aren’t at first glance directly connected to your industry can be transformational. Theres more than one path to your next destination, and many things to learn from industry leading mentors and SME’s. I’ve never felt more curious about what I don’t know, compelled to challenge what I think I know, and driven to explore the depths of high performance in this game were all so crazy about! 🤪⚽️😁 #highperformance #collaboration #innovation #talentID

In combining my passion for motorsport, along with my interest in media and international business, my Thesis, titled “Netflix’s F1: Drive to Survive” National-Level Economic Contribution", takes a deeper look into the rise of Life Sports Content (LSC), and how it may or may not effect a nation’s tourism sector. Netflix’s partnership with Formula One, which allows viewers to have behind-the-scenes content of the pinnacle of motorsport, offers the unique opportunity to research a new interdisciplinary area of sports media, sports business, and international business. With the available data, I was able to research six nations over five years that held a Formula One race to challenge my hypotheses. Moreover, I implemented “Political Risk” as a mediating variable to see if the viewer’s positive or negative perception further affected the relationship between media success and national-level economic success. I believe the data gathered shows an interesting story of the complex interplay between media, sports, and international business. After months of data collection, a multitude of variable shifts, and too many meetings with Marleen McCormick Pritchard, I am excited to show the results of my Honors Thesis that I am proud to have presented at the annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Butler University. A special thank you to Dr. McCormick and Jason Lantzer for all of the work that they have contributed to my success as an Honors student. Further, I would like to congratulate Harrison Monteith, Riley Iaria, and Chloe Janssen for their individual theses, as well - it was great to learn about such a diverse amount of topics at the conference! Do you think sports media, specifically Life Sports Content, plays an immense role in tourism-related cash inflows for nations that hold Formula One events? If so, check out the slideshow below to learn more! If you have any questions about my motivations, or the process, methodology, and results - send me a message and I am happy to dive deeper. #SportsMedia #FormulaOne #TourismEconomics #InternationalBusiness #ResearchConference

Attending the Sports Bootcamp Conference virtually has been an enlightening journey, courtesy of Diverse Representation. Here are some exciting takeaways from the Sports Bootcamp, of what I gleaned and how it's reshaping my approach: 🌟 Application over Memorization: One key insight that resonated deeply was the emphasis on applying the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) rather than simply memorizing it. Understanding its practical implications and how it plays out in real-world scenarios can be a game-changer in negotiations and client representation. 🌟 Agent's Perspective: Hearing firsthand accounts of the challenges agents face was eye-opening. From navigating the landscape of big competitors offering stipends to handling the complexities of dealing with uncertain or unstable family members attempting to sway clients, the conference shed light on the multifaceted nature of the industry. 🌟 Preparation for the NFLPA Exam: Learning pointers and tips before taking the NFLPA exam was invaluable. Utilizing spreadsheets, breaking down the CBA, and setting aside appropriate time to study and prepare were highlighted as crucial strategies. Understanding the statistics on the pass/fail ratio provided clarity on what it takes to succeed in this competitive field. Despite attending virtually, the experience was immersive and impactful. Listening to industry experts and fellow attendees in a virtual setting showcased the power of technology in fostering connections and facilitating knowledge exchange. Moving forward, I'm excited to apply these insights to my approach, leveraging a deeper understanding of the CBA and learning from the experiences shared to navigate the dynamic world of sports representation more effectively. Thank you to Jaia Thomas, The Facilitators, The Guest Agents, and the behind-the-scenes hands on deck from Diverse Representation! #SportsAgentBootcamp #DiverseRepresentation

Deakin University 🎓| Aspiring Sport Management Professional 🏟️| SportsGrad Member ☝🏼| Australian Open 🎾 | Formula One Australian Grand Prix 🏎️ | FIFA Women’s World Cup ⚽️ | Prahran Cricket Club 🏏
Really grateful to attend another wonderful Sports Talk session by Deakin University Sport Society (DUSS) and Josh McLeod this week, featuring Acacia Quinn and Ryan Walker from SportsGrad. The session looked at how one can set up the building blocks for themselves before stepping foot in the sports industry full time. 3 key lessons that resonated with me from the session were: - Be Yourself. Yes it sounds just as easy as it is frightening, especially when you are looking to be a part of a people-oriented industry. Self-confidence is everything and doing something as simple as just being yourself is going to reflect on your personality. - It is never too late to take that first step. The next step is always a step closer to where you want to be. No one should stop you from posting that first blog on LinkedIn, or asking someone for a coffee catch-up. Taking initiative is what eventually matters. Finally, this third takeaway I want to give Acacia a special shoutout to, because it is something that struck my mind and isn’t leaving anytime soon. - Often the things that you don’t want to do, might lead to things that you do want to do!! So be open to new experiences and learning along the way. Sometimes even not getting what you expected at the end is an experience in itself.

Character Over Championships in the New College Sports Era The college sports landscape is rapidly changing, and to be honest, I am relieved because the shift is not limited to financial opportunities and the transfer portal for college athletes. Those still fixated solely on racking up championships and being “given a bag” are missing the bigger picture. In today's world of NIL deals and personal branding, raw talent is not enough; authentic character is what will set you apart. Gone will be the days when your value was solely determined by performance metrics. It is now about connecting authentically with fans, businesses, sponsors, and the university while demonstrating your true self off the field. Winning tournaments is meaningless without resilience, integrity, and the ability to spin a compelling narrative that connects with people. Accolades mean squat for brand-building compared to nurturing an authentic persona that follows along next to you on the field, within your social media, and in real life. With social media, the rise of vMVPDs, and the need for constant new engaging content, there are unprecedented opportunities to connect directly with fans, supporters, and donors and cultivate a personal brand that will open massive doors—we are talking lucrative ambassador deals (NIL), business opportunities, internships, and improved job opportunities—after you hang up the jersey. But you've got to be intentional about shaping that brand strategically from the jump or as soon as possible. At the end of the day, companies and organizations won't just be buying into your athletic ability - they'll be buying into your character and the positive impact you can have on communities and their customers. The collectives and the insane money being thrown around will come to an end once organizations read their P&L’s and actually look at their "return”. When the market returns to reality, the athletes whose personal brands exemplify core values such as integrity and resilience will be the ones printing money off of NIL for years to come. Winning games and your “multi-star ranking” will only get you so far moving forward in college sports. Companies, organizations, institutions, and donors will be the ones measuring that tape, and they have much more on the line than stats and accolades. Your Character is your Brand, your Brand is your Story and your Story is what will carry you to continued success. #nil #collegesports #character #leadership #collegefootball #collegebasketball #branding

Great message here! Your thoughts regarding this ever changing landscape that certainly presents challenges for those involved is spot on. With the right approach, education, and development this new world can present more opportunities than challenges. Having a well rounded approach will ultimately win the race.
