The 100th anniversary of the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 was celebrated on June 2, 2024. The act granted full citizenship to all Indigenous people born in the United States. Here are some things to know about the Indian Citizenship Act: Native Americans have been part of the history of the United States for thousands of years. In the late 19th century, the US government built detention camps on Native American homelands and established a separate legal system for them. The act did not include voting rights, which were not settled for another 40 years. Indigenous people continue to fight for voting rights, with some suing the state for voting barriers. There is work to be done still. Some legal experts believe that the act was a retroactive correction for the mistake of allowing tribal members to serve in World War I as if they were citizens. Many Native Americans hold dual citizenship in a federally recognized tribe and the United States.

Please join us in celebrating Arab American Heritage Month! We invite you to embrace Arab American Heritage at your organization and find different ways to celebrate with your staff. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Cater a celebration lunch for your staff with a few different dishes from local Arab-owned restaurants. Have a presentation or a topic to foster learning and discussion during the lunch. 2. Send out weekly emails highlighting one or two contributions or important cultural and historical impacts of Arab Americans. Include a list of recommended books by Arab American authors that coincide with the email highlight. 3. Send out a list of local Arab American cultural events and encourage your staff to attend. Then ask them to share something they learned. 4. Highlight your Arab American staff members through short biographies that include some of their specific contributions to the organization and things they wish to share about their family, history, and culture. These are just a few of the many ways you can celebrate Arab American Heritage Month at your organization to help inspire learning and discussion, and to promote inclusion within your team.

African Diaspora Travel with Students & Adults | International Educator | AfroTourism Experience Development
What does Black Economic Solidarity look like in practice? I'm still trying to figure it out! After translating for a meeting related to Afro Tourism in Colombia, I told a few colleagues that we should try to get folks together to share what we are learning in different spaces talking about Afro Tourism in Cali, Colombia. Thank you to folks like Martinique Lewis who created ABC Travel Greenbook App and many other practitioners who have created similar resources for the inspiration to make a simple directory highlighting fellow black businesses in travel and hospitality in Cali, Colombia. https://lnkd.in/eMWVg9Rt The outcome of this first meeting was a call to create a directory of black-owned businesses and touristic experiences, so I got on Notion and figured out how to make something that looked like a directory! We are still adding businesses & tourist experiences to this resource, but if you are in Cali for the COP 16, this is a resource you can use to support some black businesses while in the city! Two of the projects featured on this list are from Joseph Fallola Ibarguen Rivas with Muntu en America, and Andres Mauricio Diaz Vasquez with Viche Mina! If you know anyone that should be added to this list, DM me! If you have any feedback I'd love to read in the comments! #COP16 #Cali #Colombia

This week, we celebrate the incredible journey of Sibongile Sambo, the founder and managing director of SRS Aviation - the first black female-owned aviation company in South Africa! Sibongile's story is a great inspiration to me... She was initially denied her dream of becoming a flight attendant because of her height 👧🏽, but she didn't let that stop her passion for aviation. Instead, she used that as a springboard to even greater heights! ✈️ My Inspirations from her story... 1️⃣ Don't Let Anything Stop You: Sibongile's story teaches us that our dreams are worth pursuing, regardless of our situation or background. There will always be obstacles, but they don't have to be roadblocks. 2️⃣ Blessings in Disguise: Sometimes, what seems like a limitation can be a blessing in disguise. Challenges can push us to explore new avenues and discover hidden talents. 3️⃣ Think Outside the Box: Obstacles can be catalysts for innovation. When faced with a hurdle, use it as an opportunity to get creative and find alternative paths to reach your goals. 🎯With a refusal to be limited by circumstances, and the willingness to adapt, and we can achieve remarkable things. #SRSaviation #EntrepreneurLife

Beautiful sentiments to close off #HispanicHeritageMonth in the words of my wise friend Gilda Alvarez and author of "Latinas in Data." Check out her book!
I want to close the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with this poem: How rich I was, and I never knew, Proud of my roots, of my people, it's true. When I return, with new eyes I see, The land, the culture, their gifts to me. Puerto Ricans beaches, Dominican sun, Colombia’s colors, each place we’ve won. Costa Rican forests, Peruvian skies, Argentina’s soul, where tradition lies. Ecuadorian mountains, standing so tall, Whispering stories, answering the call. No matter the land, wherever I roam, In their richness, I’ve always known home. The culture, the spirit, alive in each place, A heritage carried, with honor and grace. #Felizdiadelaraza
