"I want to start by congratulating World Vision on the release of your new multi-sector resilience framework. Your new framework takes a comprehensive approach in tackling the complexity of work in the resilience space." Mia Beers, USAID, during her keynote at World Vision’s Road to Resilience webinar World Vision's new multi-sectoral resilience framework is a significant step forward in addressing the intricate challenges of building resilience in vulnerable communities. The framework emphasizes the importance of understanding the unique vulnerabilities and strengths within each community. By tailoring interventions to address the root causes of these vulnerabilities, focusing on context-specific solutions, and leveraging local agency, this framework provides a robust roadmap for sustainable impact and ensures that our efforts are both effective and sustainable. Dive into the details of our approach and see how we’re making a difference on the ground: https://lnkd.in/e5rQffVf Thank you, Mia, for your keynote at our Road to Resilience Webinar last week. Your insights were invaluable as we released this crucial framework and other resources. #resilientsystems #Sustainability #Development #SustainableDevelopment #Multi-sectoralResilience

Partner at Guidehouse - Public Sector Strategy and Management Consulting - Defense and Security Segment
There are many lens with which to assess individual, community, and national resilience. This week, the focus is on how private-public partnerships can continue to enable, advance, and optimize resilience efforts across sectors and geographies. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation kicked off the 13th Annual Building Resilience Conference with impressive panels and working sessions of technical experts, government and private sector leaders, advocates and philanthropists, and researchers, including Justin Ángel Knighten, Victoria Salinas, and Thomas S.! With billion dollar disasters hitting 25 in 2023, private-public partnerships are critical for more effective response, recovery, preparedness, and resilience efforts. The key themes that emerged today included: 1 - Building trust by investing early and reinvesting in relationships regularly. 2 - Adapting to risks by continually assessing risks and threats, planning and implementing solutions, and evaluating the impact at the individual, local, regional, and national level. 3 - Shifting focus from individual to community-based projects and investments. 4 - Improving equitable outcomes for all communities, especially those that need it the most, by indexing on low-to-no cost solutions. 5 - Communicating with impact by facilitating access to information, resources, and other support in a coordinated way. #resilience #resilientfutures

This week Arthur D. Little Partner Alexander Buirski took part in a press conference at the World Governments Summit for the launch of the report “Transforming National Resilience Systems for Future Generations.” Emphasizing the importance of strong national resilience, the report identified the global top 20 highest severity risks to Nations, and estimated the global socio-economic value at risk (or “VAR”) at up to USD $30 trillion over the next two decades. In the past century, reported instances of disasters and national crises have increased over 50 times. The last five decades have seen major disasters become more frequent, complex, and severe, impacting nations profoundly, and there is no indication of a slowdown. To be prepared, Alexander says national leaders must evolve their resilience policies and investment programs towards the development of an integrated ‘National Resilience System,’ that can meet the challenges of today and risks of tomorrow. This approach when focused on individuals and community’s needs, will inspire a culture of resilience within citizens, society, and the wider economy - for the benefit of both current and future generations. #WGS24 #WGS #Risk

Perusing April's draft National Resilience Guidance from FEMA, I wanted to highlight a handy resource included within the document. That resource is the Resilience Maturity Model. The Model, as you will see, illustrates stages in the evolution of a community’s approach to resilience. The intended audience is community actors, but I think it holds just as well for organisations and entities, illustrating how their actions can increase resilience over time. For more, see the Maturity Model: here: #teamnoggin #fema #nationalresilience #resiliencematurity

We are living through an unprecedented increase in severe weather events. To meet this moment, we need to break away from the rinse and repeat of disaster response and recovery. Only through intentional, thoughtful planning and investments will we create resilient communities in the face of the extreme weather events of today and the future. Deanne Criswell US Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator. FEMA Funds are allocated to projects in 55 states and territories and 34 tribal nations, enabling resilience efforts on a truly national scale. – Nearly $4 billion has already been allocated to over 1,000 applications, with $2.3 billion for over 400 projects in the 2022 financial year (FY22). – A significant portion of the FY22 funds will benefit disadvantaged communities. – https://bityl.co/OCfZ
