"This resilience theme has become a very major theme for us over the last few years, as smallholders are exposed to the increasing degradation of soils, the increasing difficulties of accessing water, and the increasing volatility of weather systems associated with climate change. So, this new release of new or upgraded policies by World Vision, USAID, and others, for us is very timely...." Simon Winter, Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture As we face escalating environmental challenges, our multi-sectoral resilience framework offers timely and crucial strategies to address these issues. World Vision’s multi-sectoral resilience framework provides actionable insights for addressing the environmental degradation and resource scarcity that threaten livelihoods globally. By integrating resilience into environmental and agricultural practices, we can ensure that communities are better prepared for and can adapt to those challenges. See how these strategies can drive positive change in your work: https://lnkd.in/e5rQffVf Thank you, Simon, for your keynote at our Road to Resilience Webinar last week. Your perspectives on environmental resilience were essential to the release of our new framework. #resilientsystems #Sustainability #Development #SustainableDevelopment #MultisectoralResilience

First live update from #ClimateWeekNYC 2024: after an informal catch up yesterday evening with fellow nature leaders, Day 1 started with a brainstorm about building a world restoration economy with Willem Ferwerda & Commonland. Next, a constructive 90min consultation with NGOs and companies on the proposed US Forest Act: proposed legislation that would bring clarity about deforestation-free commodities to both large companies & to consumers. Learning from the recent EU #Deforestation Regulation helps! Then a strategy workshop with the 1t.org team: how can we bring more companies to invest in forest ecosystems in the next five years, at a time when #ESG compliance reporting is absorbing focus? We need courageous corporate leaders more than ever, who act with boldness and urgency. Is your company willing to help save & restore the world’s forests? Please DM me. Let’s have a climate conversation! As climate change continues to threaten food security, the response may lie in small, rural communities like Tominian, Mali. Idrissa Diarra, once ridiculed for attempting sustainable forage production on degraded land, has turned the impossible into reality. Supported by the Pro-ARIDES programme, his ’crazy‘ idea is now transforming livelihoods and building climate resilience 🌍 . Responses to global climate challenges often emerge from local innovation in the most vulnerable places. Idrissa’s success proves that even in the harshest conditions, resilience can take root and flourish - offering a powerful mindset for tackling food insecurity across the world 🌱 . Every year, an area the size of 14 million football fields ️⚽️ is lost to degradation. That's a staggering 10 million hectares of productive land gone – land we desperately need to feed people and animals. We see the impact from our clients' experiences – extreme weather events are hitting farmers and businesses hard. ☀️ 🌧️ Droughts, floods – the consequences of land degradation are real and costly. This World Environment Day, the focus is on a critical challenge: stopping land degradation, halting desertification, and building drought resilience. It's a big one, but what collective steps are we taking to tackle it? Positive movements like the European Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive give us hope. These initiatives push for sustainable practices, which are essential to protecting our land. Companies that take the lead in promoting sustainable land management will be well-positioned for the future, especially with regulations becoming more prominent. ♻️ This #WorldEnvironmentDay is an opportunity to learn more about land degradation and how we can all contribute to solutions: https://lnkd.in/duCHperf Remember, every small step counts! Every action, no matter how small, makes a difference! ➡️ We're curious on how you think we could better rise to this challenge - how could we all be doing more to nurture and optimize land use? #GenerationRestoration #SDG #CSRD #EUDR #SustainabilityConsulting

Today is World Environment Day. 🌿 We believe in an abundant world for all and it is our shared responsibility to care of our environment. This year’s theme emphasises the importance of restoring land, combating desertification, and enhancing resilience to drought. Up to 40% of the world's land is degraded, impacting 3.2 billion people due to desertification. By 2050, over three-quarters of the population could face drought. Human activities are worsening environmental damage, leading to climate change, loss of ecosystems, and desertification. Earlier in the year, we collaborated with Ecolab, where multinationals discussed the consumer perception around water conservation and the role of corporates and government in a 100% water positive future. You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/gqrYNubg It is our duty as the current generation to protect the environment and restore land and nature to their natural state. It’s also important that we’re promoting meaningful conversations with our future leaders. Thanks to the pioneers and everyone in the Abundium community focusing on ESG initiatives, making real efforts to safeguard our environment. Collective efforts create lasting change. Let's take action to protect our planet! 🌍 We are #GenerationRestoration

This image is truly thought-provoking: Are we ready to confront the fact that our actions could result in the loss of billions of lives? Startling research, summarised and shared by @Kasper Benjamin Reimer Bjørkskov warns that without significant steps to reduce #greenhousegases, 1 billion people are at risk of premature death. This crisis is not just an #environmentalissue; it directly threatens human life. The time for systemic change is immediate, as 1 in 8 people may face death due to #climatechange. To address this urgent issue, we can all contribute by: 📣 Advocating for policies that drastically #reduceemissions. 🌐 Supporting organisations working towards #climatejustice. 🗳️ Voting for leaders committed to urgent #environmentalsolutions. Climate change is affecting communities worldwide, and its impacts are far-reaching and diverse. As I lead Pact's sustainable markets portfolio, I witness these effects daily. Climate-related disasters, such as floods and droughts, disrupt local economies and agricultural production, leading to lost income, food insecurity, and economic instability. In addition, climate change contributes to the spread of diseases, posing significant health risks to communities with limited access to health care services and sanitation infrastructure. This exacerbates existing vulnerabilities, particularly among marginalized populations, such as small-scale farmers and indigenous communities, who often lack resources and adaptive capacity to cope. To address these challenges, Pact is integrating climate and environmental considerations across our programming, from livelihoods to governance to health. We believe that incorporating comprehensive strategies into development planning, policy-making, and community engagement processes is essential to meet climate change's challenges. Let us work together to build a more sustainable and resilient future for all. #ClimateChange #Sustainability #CommunityDevelopment https://lnkd.in/dzmsnwQJ David Bonnardeaux Nicole Perkins Baddou

We can't change the damage we've already done to the planet. But we can try to make it better. ♻️ Yes, we know this is the third awareness or celebration day that we've talked about this week, but they're all too important to ignore. The United Nations created World Environment Day, held today, to highlight that the protection and health of the environment is a major issue which affects the well-being of people, and economic development across the globe. 🌎 So we can't change the past, but we can change the future. The focus this year is on generation and restoration, and that means we can regrow forests, we can revive water sources and we can nurse soil to health to ensure our world continues to bloom for future generations. 🌻 We have the technology to improve the world. We can make it happen. It's going to be difficult, but we must act now before we lose our window of opportunity and the damage is irreparable. We've only got one planet, so we have to look after it. Check out our Environmental, Social & Governance Collection for more information about how you can do your bit. We'll link it in the comments. 👇🏻 #generationrestoration #worldenvironmentday #ESG
