We held an additional closed Steering Committee meeting of the employee representatives in Barry Callebaut's European Works Council with the following agenda: - Analysis by the experts we appointed regarding BC Next Level. - State of affairs of the local consultation in the European sites. - Preparation of European framework agreement. 📣 Feedback and analysis of the experts We received the following insights: 💡 The experts spoke mainly about cost cuts in a financially stable and profitable company. 💡 They wonder whether Barry Callebaut is not actually compromising that stability with BC Next Level. 💡 Despite the management's promise to work with the experts in full transparency, we need to conclude that insufficient detailed information was shared. 💡 Additional interviews and further research are scheduled over the coming period. The experts will provide more information at the next meeting of 27 May. 📣 Local consultation in the European sites Despite earlier insistence, it appears that the social dialogue is still not optimal at certain sites. At the sites where consultation does take place, major question marks remain about the need and level of detail of the BC Next Level plan. 📣 European framework agreement - We drew up a draft European framework agreement with the aim of negotiating with the management. - We want to establish the minimum conditions for all European employees affected by BC Next Level and have included the following elements: 💚 Guarantees in terms of consultation, also where there is no trade union representative. 💚 Guarantees in terms of preservation of acquired rights. 💚 Guarantees in terms of job transfers or dismissal. 💚 Priority for affected employees when filling vacancies. 💚 Guarantees in terms of coaching and training toward a new job, both internally and externally. 💚 Extra attention and possible incentives for people who remain at Barry Callebaut. 💚 Higher compensation in case of dismissal than provided by law ✊ Thanks to our sustained European solidarity, we've obtained the management's commitment to jointly reach such a European agreement. Had a fantastic dialogue and briefing session with the esteemed leaders of the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) on March 9, 2024, at the MTUC Kuching Region office. Together with MTUC members and HRD Corp officers, we delved into key discussions aimed at empowering our workforce and driving organizational growth. Topics covered included: 1. Highlighting HRD Corp’s role in Sarawak and fostering collaboration to maximize levy utilization among union employers. 2. MTUC’s dedication to raising awareness about HRD Corp and encouraging levy utilization among its members. 3. The enthusiastic readiness of MTUC members to work hand-in-hand with HRD Corp, acting as conduits of information to their respective employers. 4. Exciting promotions of upcoming initiatives like NTW, PLM, and collaborative programs. The feedback from members was overwhelmingly positive, especially regarding the enlightening discussions. Many were pleasantly surprised by the levy’s potential for training opportunities, igniting a keen interest in exploring its benefits further. This proactive mindset underscores our joint commitment to fostering individual growth and organizational success. The Metsä For All vision sums up our commitment to a culture of diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI). Our actions have included introducing gender-neutral job titles, mainly recruiting anonymously to encourage people with different backgrounds to apply, and promoting DEI awareness through our Code of Conduct and training. Employee job satisfaction remained at a very good A+ level. We aim to enhance the implementation of measures based on the survey and assess any other actions affecting job satisfaction to reach the 2030 target of AAA. Occupational safety is our top priority in everything we do. Although there was progress towards the zero accidents target, unfortunately in 2023 some of the accidents were serious despite all the preventive actions.
