What proactive steps can be taken to strengthen security in vulnerable community centers and places of worship? Burglars Devastate South Shore Church, Stealing Equipment and Gutting Food Pantry Windsor Park Church in South Shore, Chicago, was burglarized just hours before Sunday services. Key Takeaways: - Community Impact: The burglary has significantly impacted the church’s ability to support the community, highlighting the vital role of the food pantry in serving the neighborhood's most vulnerable populations. - Security Enhancements: The incident underscores the need for improved security measures in community centers and churches, including robust surveillance systems and community vigilance. - Community Response: Immediate community support and collaboration with local authorities are crucial in helping the church recover from the loss and in preventing future incidents. #churchsecurity #churchsafety https://lnkd.in/g__yyu72

In today's evolving security landscape, collaboration between nonprofits and local police departments is more essential than ever. By working closely with law enforcement, nonprofits can develop tailored security strategies that address their unique challenges while benefiting from the expertise and resources of local authorities. This partnership strengthens preparedness, enhances rapid response capabilities, and fosters a safer environment for staff, volunteers, and the communities they serve. At the Nonprofit Security Awareness Forum (NSAF), we emphasize the importance of these collaborations, encouraging nonprofits to proactively engage with their local police departments to create comprehensive security plans that keep everyone safe. #nsaf #nonprofitsecurityawarenessforum

An update on our actions following the #floods and landslides in #nepal. We'll be blunt, the situation is dire, with death tolls exceeding 200 and widespread destruction. Our OSOC Trustees spoke to Nirajan, who leads our Homework Club there. Thankfully, all #children in the club are safe. But many of their homes (huts) are damaged. Food supplies have been washed away. Clothes and mattresses are soaked through. In response, we've sent some funds from our reserves to help replace lost food 🍲 It's a small step but critical for immediate relief. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as we can. This crisis highlights how vulnerable communities can be severely affected by natural disasters. Yet, it also shows the importance of swift action and support during such times. Every effort counts when lives are at stake and futures hang in balance. Through this experience, we aim to strengthen our resolve to aid those in need swiftly. And ensure that no child or family feels abandoned during crises like these. #EmergencyRelief #childrenscharity #FloodRelief

Whaling Fishing Email from Malicious Actors: The increase of supply chain attacks (where a supplier or partner organization’s network is compromised in order to gain access to the target area) has been well documented. However, recent whaling attacks have used easily accessible information on suppliers or partners to create whaling emails which look legitimate. If an organization advertises partners such as charities, law firms, policy institute or academic, they should be aware that they may receive emails from malicious actors disguised as the trusted partners.

Important consideration - what is needed versus what you enjoy / prefer / like (?) to give. Full recovery will take months, if not years. Think / plan how your support can be longer-term.
Asheville, NC update: for those who are eager to help and have not already, pause for a moment. Buncombe County is saturated with resources, volunteers, food, water right now. Please give our community time to distribute and organize. What we will need is support in 3-4 weeks once these supplies are depleted. Needs may also change at that point, and the media buzz about WNC might be quiet(er). That is when we will need your support to sustain the community and fuel rebuilding efforts. If you need to take action now, I recommend Manna Food Bank: a community lifeline that was already serving food insecurity needs across 16 counties in western NC (for the last 40 years!) Their primary warehouse was lost to flooding, and they are rebooting to meet the needs of our area. They are well connected across the region, managed to save their distribution trucks, and have the means to reach rural areas with most need: https://lnkd.in/enZn3RXF

Charging for search and rescue (SAR) services is a contentious topic in the outdoor recreation community. While it is understandable that Kauai County, HI is considering a bill to cover SAR costs, implementing a fee of $1000 per hour could have unintended consequences. Charging for SAR services may deter individuals from seeking help in emergency situations due to the financial burden. This could potentially lead to more risky situations and increased danger for those in need of assistance. Additionally, this has shown it places SAR personal at greater risk also. Instead of charging individuals for SAR, it may be more effective to focus on education and prevention programs that promote responsible outdoor behavior. This could help reduce the need for rescues and ensure a safer environment for all outdoor enthusiasts. https://lnkd.in/gYK9cudh @RecreationLaw #SAR #Search_Rescue #BoycottNH #NoChargeforRescue #NoChargeforSAR #RecLaw #RecreationLaw
