February wraps up, feeling like a year's end in just two months! How's your 2024 so far? Any lessons shaping your path ahead? This month brought valuable experiences: 1. Volunteering at a FairPrice outlet during CNY work highlighted the importance of every cent. What seems small to some is substantial to others. 2. Respect is earned. CNY volunteering witnessed customers handing food to our frontliners, showing that kindness matters more than material things. 3. At a community event, the majority assumed one choice was wisest, but a thoughtful minority's alternative proved best—a reminder to be mindful of choices. March awaits with these insights. Instead of buying polluting firecrackers, consider these alternatives: 🇺🇸 Donate to Food Banks: Buy a bag of food for your local food bank or shelter. This not only helps those in need but also fosters a sense of community. 🇺🇸 Eco-Friendly Decorations:  Use reusable or biodegradable decorations for your celebration. This reduces waste and is better for the environment. 🇺🇸 Community Clean-Up:  Organize or participate in a community clean-up event. It’s a great way to give back and ensure that public spaces remain clean and enjoyable for everyone. 🇺🇸 Plant a Tree: Planting trees is a wonderful way to contribute to the environment. It’s a long-lasting tribute to Independence Day that benefits future generations. 🇺🇸 Buy food for animal shelters: Even a small bag of food goes a long way in helping our furry pals. 🇺🇸 Light Sparklers:  If you still want some traditional fun, opt for sparklers. They are less polluting than large fireworks and can be enjoyed safely. Honoring Selflessness: Beyond Company Volunteer Days Today, on Pat Tillman's death anniversary, his legacy of selfless service resonates deeply. While company volunteer days are fantastic - fostering team spirit and giving back - true selflessness extends beyond those designated hours. Imagine the impact if we all carried that spirit into our communities every day. There's an elderly neighbor who could use help with groceries. A local animal shelter overflowing with animals longing for a walk. Maybe a park cleanup neglected after a long winter. These are the countless opportunities where your time can make a world of difference. Selflessness isn't about grand gestures. It's about looking around and identifying a need you can fulfill, big or small. It's about lending a hand without expecting anything in return. Pat Tillman walked away from a lucrative NFL career to serve his country. His sacrifice reminds us that true fulfillment often comes from putting others first. So, today, and every day, let's honor his legacy by: Seeking out volunteer opportunities in our communities: Find a cause that resonates with you and donate your time. Looking for everyday ways to help: Offer to help a struggling colleague, hold the door for someone with their hands full, or simply offer a kind word to someone who seems down. For this Community Clean-Up our volunteers will meet up at, and clean the neighborhood around Mesa Verde Community Center located at 7900 Marquette NE Albuquerque NM 87108 NO OPEN-TOED SHOES Cleaning up loose trash is one of the best ways to pitch in for your community and the environment. Volunteering as a means to help conserve and protect the environment has a lot of upsides. Of course, the first is that you’ll be taking care of our planet, and it badly needs a little love given the myriad ways in which we’ve become adept at destroying it. But beyond that, volunteering for a cause you care about is a great way to meet like-minded people, make friends, and pull yourself out of the blues that sometimes accompany caring a lot about something important – especially if you feel alone in your endeavors. None of us like the sight of litter. Litter spoils the look of where we live but that’s not the only reason for picking up litter. There are a number of benefits from picking up litter that you may not have considered before. Volunteer-led projects such as these are one of the quickest, simplest, and least expensive ways to inspire more community spirit and civic action. A visually appealing community increases property values, attracts businesses, and improves the neighborhood's image. Beauty is one of the three most influential factors in community attachment, which means loyalty, to your particular town or city. It’s amazing how bringing in the right person at the right time can drive immediate and broad positive impact on an organization (and our community). 🙌🏻 Sarah Golman In talking with a community stakeholder this week, he shared his goal of creating lifelong employment opportunities for A+ talent in the Dallas Jewish nonprofit community. Nonprofit work is rooted in the “soft stuff” like heart, mission alignment, and compassion. Taking this role after a 15 year career in financial services, I thought I was already prepared for the “tough stuff” but I have never worked with a team so open to big change, focused on driving positive results for our stakeholders, and relentless about collaborating across the community to bring deep impact and support for those who need it most. Yes, it takes a big heart to bring your A+ game to this sector - but it requires grit, intellect, and determination, too. To attract and retain top talent, it demands investment. If you’re a donor or a board member of a nonprofit organization, consider endowing resources to fund the costliest roles in the agency you love. Similar to endowing a chair at a university, this creates operational flexibility and ensures that the organization can attract A+ talent no matter what’s going on in the market and environment around you.
