Transformer Robots are here! Transform' is a robotic technology that turns a static table into a dynamic display using thousands of moving pins. This pin-based shape display could be a great experience for remotely accessing and interacting with a physical space. The work is comprised of three dynamic shape displays that move more than one thousand pins up and down in realtime to transform the tabletop into a dynamic tangible display. The kinetic energy of the viewers, captured by a sensor, drives the wave motion represented by the dynamic pins. Wheel Encoders are sensors that convert the angular position or motion of a wheel into digital signals, allowing accurate tracking of wheel rotations. In #Duckietown, Hall Effect Encoders are used to measure the incremental changes in wheel position, producing 135 ticks per wheel revolution. Engineers have developed a way to give robots complex instructions without electricity for the first time which could free up space in the robotic ‘brain’ to allow them to ‘think’. Mimicking how some parts of the human body work, researchers from King's College London (KCL) have transmitted a series of commands to devices with a new kind of compact circuit, using variations in pressure from a fluid inside it. According to the research team, this world first opens the possibility of a new generation of robots, whose bodies could operate independently of their built-in control centre, with this space potentially being used instead for more complex AI powered software.
