May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+), also known as Red Dress Day. This observance serves as a solemn reminder of the disproportionately high rates of violence experienced by Indigenous communities, particularly women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals. The Red Dress symbolizes those who have been lost to violence or have gone missing, representing stories of loss, trauma, and injustice that demand acknowledgment and action. Raising awareness of MMIWG2S+ is not just about recognizing past wrongs but also about actively working towards a future where Indigenous lives are valued, protected, and respected. By amplifying these voices and stories, we create space for healing, remembrance, and solidarity within Indigenous communities and beyond. Awareness empowers us to challenge injustices, advocate for meaningful change, and strive for justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

Was very happy to join United Nations Commemoration for International Women's Day today and excited to share the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador's message to us. (thank you Anne Hathaway) "If we share this world in equal numbers, why aren't we valued equally?" My own thoughts, Investing in women doesn't just mean providing resources. It means being an ally 🤘 #heforshe, even when she is not in the room. It means rallying to provide opportunities like flexibility, equal pay 🙌 , opportunities to speak up, opportunity to grow and overcome their societal conditioning by coaching, education, upskilling opportunities and helping them grow in the way that works for them. As the president of the General Assembly indicated today, "Investing in women is investing in the future" 🙋♀️ In my sector this translates to technology, #responsibleAI systems, educating people about the inherent bias in generative AI models, demanding accountability from AI companies, support women in AI and speaking up from a place of expertise to help build fair and equitable systems (with a low carbon footprint 🌍).
