The 2023 CDP Türkiye Annual Report has been released! 🌍 This comprehensive report highlights the remarkable progress made by Turkish companies and cities in addressing environmental challenges across climate change, water security, and forests. For the first time, the majority of companies reporting their environmental impacts through CDP in Türkiye did so voluntarily - a clear sign that organizations in this growing market see disclosure as the cornerstone of effective action. European Environment Agency - Is Europe on track towards climate resilience? Status of reported national adaptation actions in 2023 In March 2023, EU Member States were mandated for the second time to report their national adaptation actions under the Regulation on the Governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action. For the first time they also reported on adaptation aspects in the progress reporting of their national energy and climate plans. Non-EU EEA member countries were invited to provide similar information on a voluntary basis. This briefing presents the current status of national adaptation actions across Europe, with an emphasis on recent developments and lessons learned since the reporting in 2021. https://lnkd.in/drGpwD6u #climatechange #europe #climatechangeadaptation

Europe is the fastest-warming continent globally, yet the implementation of EU policies is lagging behind the increasing climate risks, according to a recent report by the European Environment Agency (EEA). The Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) played a significant role in compiling the report. "This is the first comprehensive climate risk assessment covering the entire European continent, commissioned by the European Commission," says Johan Munck af Rosenschöld. "In the report, we assess not only the severity of climate risks but also the EU’s political readiness to manage these risks. The report highlights that Europe’s preparedness for climate risks is insufficient. The most severe and rapidly growing risks are concentrated in Southern Europe, but challenges exist across all regions. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dWf8Ud7T) #EUCRA #climaterisks

Join us for a hybrid event as we unveil surprising new research on the EU's climate mitigation potential: Despite contributing only 7% of global greenhouse gas pollution, we've discovered the European Union could realize billions of additional tons of global #decarbonization through just 8 politically achievable, but currently underrated, policies. Our new report “8 EU Policy Priorities for Global Decarbonization” provides detailed recommendations on each EU climate policy. The study is based on input from over 100 policy experts and data from over 500 publications. Prof Peter Thorne and ICARUS have contributed to Ireland’s first Climate Change Assessment report, led by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Launched last month, it is the first comprehensive assessment of key aspects of climate change with a central focus on Ireland. According to the report, “truly extreme heat events” that are rare in the current climate are projected to become more common in all scenarios. #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather Read the report: https://ow.ly/B6LL50Qzc23.

It was a pleasure to host this webinar where we explored the intersection of environmental consciousness, climate action, climate finance, and Botswana's national budget allocation. It is through stakeholder engagement and collaboration that we can pool efforts to amplify impact. It is evident that although the country has ambitious green transition goals, we still need to prioritize adaptation and building resistance in communities. There is a proposed budget of P1.37 Billion for climate initiatives and P1.03 Billion for Research and Development, which includes climate change. In the budget speech, it is outlined that there are plans for increasing the transition from fossil fuels from 2% to 30% by 2030. The participants were especially interested in knowing what strategies the government has in place to achieve this goal, what monitoring and evaluation frameworks are in place, how will this budget trickle down to grassroots communities and what data was used to guide these numbers. Concerns noted from discussions: Botswana is already behind in NDC implementation, additionally, Botswana has still not updated its NDCs since 2016. If you missed this session, BCCN will be posting the video recording and output in the following week.

Somewhat under the radar the European Environment Agency (EEA) has published this month the first ever European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA) to help identify policy priorities for climate change adaptation and for climate-sensitive sectors in Europe. The report will probably become a central source for guidance for climate risk assessment and adaptation priorities for the EU in the future. Executive Summary and unedited Full Report https://lnkd.in/ddC4Cf3U Excerpt from the report: "Most policies and actions to strengthen Europe's resilience to climate change are made for the long term, and some actions have long lead times. Urgent action is needed now to prevent rigid choices that are not fit for the future in a changing climate, such as in land-use planning and long-lived infrastructure. We must prevent locking ourselves into maladaptive pathways and avoid potentially catastrophic risks." #climatechange #climaterisk #climaterisks #eea #climateaction #europe #climateresilience #EU
