A Disability Rights Act with teeth 2. Easy Read information that is easy to find and easy to use 3. Replace the outmoded Guardianship Act 4. Take Intellectual Disability Health Teams statewide 5. Jobs for people with intellectual disability in the public sector 6. More social housing with the right supports 7. Extend court based diversion from 6 to all 155 courts 8. A big leap forward on inclusive education 9. Legislate to minimise restrictive practices

Today is the 34th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. I often hear "the ADA would never be passed today." This is unfortunately true. Instead of seeing bipartisan efforts to expand disability rights, we've seen efforts to roll back the ADA, from attempts to gut the ADA through the court system to legislation like HR 620, the ADA Education and Reform Act, which passed the House of Representatives in 2018 with the support of Republicans and some Democrats. We need more disabled progressives who are working to expand disability rights as candidates, elected officials, and campaign staff, which is why Neal Carter and I co-founded Disability Victory last year. Although the ADA passed 34 years ago and has been critically important to securing our civil rights, it wasn't a magic wand. Disabled people face ableism and inaccessibility on the campaign trail and in the political arena. We are working to dismantle these barriers to empower more disabled people to lead. MPC and members of ADAPT, our Disability employee network, are celebrating Disability Awareness Month. This year’s theme at MPC is Share Your Story and encourages listening, learning and engaging with the disability community. Led by members of ADAPT, our employees are participating in events during March, including a session on the power of storytelling and a father’s panel featuring MPC employees sharing their experiences and perspectives on being parents to children with disabilities. #DisabilityAwarenessMonth
