PROTECT YOUR TURF: NAVIGATING THE CHAOS IN 3 EASY STEPS
Transcript
Hi, this is Warren Peskin and welcome to the second edition of Protecting Your Turf. Last week we spoke about the. The concept of protecting our turf. From things that are external to us, people, places and things that we cannot control. And at the end of the day, the only person or thing that we can't control is ourself. So we in essence are the gatekeeper of our own turf, whether there is change in any aspect of our personal or work life. Now today we're going to take a little deeper dive on that and we're going to talk about which shows up for us when there is disruption, when there is chaos, and we're going to talk about how we can navigate. That chaos and that change that's coming at us and when the concept that I want you to remember is you are the gatekeeper. You are the one that will allow what is going to affect you or not affect you. And I know this seems like a really big chore, but with practice you will see that you have the power. To control the change that shows up in your life that is external to you, right? Whether it's in change in specifically to the beauty industry, if there's change in distribution, there's change whether distribution of a brand distributorship, whether there's changes in your salon business, right? There are things that come at us and we being the gatekeeper, we can navigate that chaos. And I also want to let you know that aside from navigating the chaos, we can also. Add to the chaos. So here's what we're going to talk about when chaos and change and disruption shows up in our life. Basically what's happening happening is the things that we become used to, routines, things that we can count on. All of the sudden we can't count on those things anymore. But the number of disruptions to hairdressers, work schedule, the number of people that are cancelling their appointments is in some places the highest it's ever been. There's changes in distribution. The brands, there's changes in distribution with salespeople, there's changes in distribution with distributors, right? So things that we could count on, we can't count on anymore. And that causes disruption and it causes uncomfortability. Now, what the human mind does in all of us is that when something is external of us from us, a person, place or thing that now that we used to count on, we can't count on, we've become uncomfortable. And in that uncomfortability, there is fear. Now I've learned that. Fear stands for forget everything about reality because the human mind is magnificent as it is. What it does when there are changes that are affecting us, things external from US1 of the things it does, is it creates fear. Our mind creates fear. And if we accept the concept that fear is, you know, forget everything about reality, then our mind is actually making up something that doesn't exist. Now here's what's interesting about this concept. Our mind, when it grabs on to something that is new and creates fear with the mind is doing, is creating something that doesn't exist and it's creating a series of behaviors and actions for you that you're taking based upon that thought of fear that isn't real. You're creating actions and behaviors and then engaging in those actions and behaviors in your life based upon. Something that's not real. Kind of crazy, huh? But think about that for a moment. Think about when when you have a fearful thought, or when disruption or chaos or confusion shows up in your work or personal life. Think about how you lead the moment. You're gone, lights are on, nobody's home. You go to an end result that hasn't even existed. Create a series of actions and behaviors around what doesn't exist, and you go down what I call the rabbit hole. OK, in in that moment, the chaos that's coming at us, the change that's coming at us, we're now adding to it based upon things that aren't real. So I'm going to help you with that. And this is something I've been doing in my life for several years now, and I do it all the time. No Do I do it more than I used to? Yes. And do I get the results I'm looking for by doing it? Absolutely. So I'm going to share with you some pretty cool things that when chaos confusion. And disruption show up in your life creating that uncomfortable moment. And then uncomfortable moment creates fear. Your mind grabs onto that fear, creates something that's not real. And you create actions and behaviors and move on and add to that chaos. I'm going to share with you right now how you can stop that. OK, so let's all take a deep breath. When you have that moment of uncomfortability, when chaos, disruption, and confusion shows up in your life and causes that fearful thought, the first thing I want you to do, the first thing I want you to do, is to ask if that thought is real. OK, is that thought real? Simple thought, right? But how many times do you stop and ask that? How many times did I stop and ask it I didn't? So when you have that fearful thought, just #1 ask if it's real, OK? #2. How do you know? That it's real. How do you know that that fearful thought is real now? I just showed shared with you a little while ago that fear is we make it up, right? Human beings are meaning making machines. We make meaning out of everything we do. It's not right or wrong or good or bad. It's just how we're wired. A fearful thought. Is a thought that our mind makes up based upon external forces coming at us. That have broken up routine, taking away something that we can count on right reliability. And they've left us in the lurch. And we take that, we create fear. So the first question, like I said, is. Ask if that fearful thought is real. The second thing I want you to ask is how do you know it's real if I'm telling you fear is not real? Then what I want you to do is write that fearful thought down and answer the question on paper. How do I know it's real now? For me, in the when I did that the first time, I was in awe at my response. I could not find anything real about that fearful thought in that moment when I was doing the exercise for the first time. It validates the thought that fear is not real. Yet we make up this whole set of actions and behaviors and we think it's real and we're adding to the chaos. We're not dissolving the chaos. So the second thing is, how do you know it's real? And the third thing, which is the most important part of this for you today? Who would you be? Without that fear. Who would you be without that fear now? Years ago, we all heard that we're human beings, not human doings, and there's truth to that. Because we're made-up of states of being. Just being graceful. We're being loving, we're being in gratitude, we're being loved for states of being, right? Fear is not a state of being, but it sure feels like one. It sure acts like one. It sure looks like 1. But it's not. So who would you be? Without that fearful thought, would you be freer? Would you be joyful? I don't know. I know for me when chaos, disruption and uncertainty shown uncertainty show up in my life. And I take that deep, cleansing breath. And I asked, who would I be without that fearful thought? It's like something has been lifted. It's like, ohh, my goodness. I would be freer. I wouldn't feel stuck. I wouldn't feel paralyzed. So check it out for yourself. So navigating chaos is at the end of the day, you're the gatekeeper of your turf. You're protecting your turf. You're allowing what's to affect you and what's not to affect you. No one's telling you you have to agree with what's going on. You are the gatekeeper of your own life. You are the protector of your turf. So start protecting it. Don't let the things outside of yourself that you cannot control. People, places and things. Be the story of your life. You be the story of your life. You create the story of your life. Don't let things outside of yourself create the story of your life. And definitely don't let fear be your story. Let freedom be your story. That empowerment be your story. Let confidence be your story. OK, so until next time, this is Warren Peskin. Wishing you all the best.To view or add a comment, sign in
