💡 "What we lack is support for translating our ideas into real business. There is training and education, but we want to know how to start and manage a business successfully.” ~ Group of young people, Casablanca ~ On August 12 #InternationalYouthDay, we celebrate #Youth #DigitalPathways for Sustainable Development. Africa is in the unique position of being a relatively young continent, with a rapidly growing youth population. We at #Scale2Save found that young people in #Africa are adept at using digital technology to fulfill needs and dreams. 🤝 Meet Destiny – a young student from Nigeria - who spoke with #Scale2Save about his entrepreneurial and social aspirations https://lnkd.in/e9eWvw9r. Lessons from the #Scale2Save youth study ( https://lnkd.in/eCqdQUbw) that was conducted in partnership with Mastercard Foundation and L-IFT Lise Paaskesen can help financial institutions, financial inclusion experts from NGOs, intergovernmental organizations and academia, as well as policymakers tackle the challenge of helping youth to transition from school into jobs through the provision of financial services and the right skillsets, and how social norms could be overcome to address the persistent #gendergap. This is why WSBI-ESBG's #Scale2Save partners with Aflatoun International to support skillset building. 📩 Céline Stevens #InternationalYouthDay2024 #YouthDay

It’s that time of the year, for me, I can call it multiple celebrations but yeah let me leave that for later. As for now, it’s Youth O’clock, and this year’s theme for International Youth Day is “Youth Digital Pathways for #SustainableDevelopment”, which opt me to ask; ✍🏾How much are you using your #digitaltools to advocate for positive change? ✍🏾What do you consume with each click you make online? ✍🏾What Impact or #opportunities can you show that the digital tools you use expose you to? If you can’t answer these questions upfront then my dear you still have a long way to go in seeing that you filter and scout the right content and people for you. Regardless, Youth has been making major waves in shaping the world in their way for a sustainable future. I remember this day two years ago when I was invited to the IYD program by Plan International Nigeria and that exposed me to a lot of people and ideas that I will proudly say changed my entire life, one of which is Fatima Muhammad Mafi she stood as a panel and girl blew my mind, I am glad we crossed paths and as she flipped another chapter in her life today, I pray all your silent prayers to be answered, Indeed you are a true example of youth energy, she’s a force and an inspiration to many, Barakallahu Fik. #HappyBirthday, Fatima 🎉. Dear Young People, dream BIG, work HARD, and NEVER give up, your #YOUTH is your most POWERFUL ASSET. Happy International Youth Day💪🏾. #susuabdul #InternationalYouthDay #YouthPower

Africa, with its vibrant and youthful population boasting an average age of 18.7 years, stands on the cusp of unprecedented potential. This demographic advantage can serve as a powerful catalyst for the continent's growth across various sectors. The energy, creativity, and dynamism of the youth present an incredible opportunity to propel Africa into a new era of innovation and development. 🌍🌱 To unlock this immense potential, it is crucial to invest in education and equip the younger generation with intellectual tools that foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Quality education, accessible to all, becomes the cornerstone for nurturing a generation of forward-thinking individuals who can address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. This includes not only formal education but also a commitment to vocational training and skill development, ensuring a well-rounded approach that aligns with the diverse talents and aspirations of the youth. 🎓💡 Moreover, fostering an environment that encourages entrepreneurship and innovation is essential. By providing mentorship programs, access to technology, and creating a supportive ecosystem for startups, Africa can harness the entrepreneurial spirit of its youth to drive economic growth and technological advancement. Something really cool is happening across East Africa that deserves more attention. The region's youth are leading a quiet entrepreneurship revolution that blends new technologies with traditional cultural values and business methods. This isn’t the business landscape of an aging generation. These young innovators are taking the best of the old and the new to fuel economic and cultural renaissances. On the business side, they're revitalizing communal relationships and social trusts that have long been pillars of the local economies. Adding a tech twist to these approaches makes them globally competitive while keeping them grounded in community ties. ✨For example, digital platforms that connect local farmers to broader markets are streamlining agriculture supply chains. So technology speeds things up but the communal essence stays intact. It's high-tech with a human face that fits East African cultural norms. The tech-powered knowledge gain is crucial too. Young East Africans have increasing access to online education, breaking down barriers and empowering a new generation of digitally-savvy leaders. But these folks also deeply understand their cultural backgrounds. This fusion of past and future isn't just good business - it's a statement of identity. It's about moving forward as a society while honoring your roots. It shows the resilience and creativity that Africa has possessed for millennia. For real, the rest of us have a lot to learn here. Progress doesn't mean ditching the past. It means building on it with respect and vision. These young Africans aren't just closing gaps - they're paving new roads. #sustainability #sdgs #africarising #climateaction

The future of Africa is YOUth! As we celebrate International Youth Day, themed "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development," we recognize the potential and creativity of young people worldwide. Youth are at the forefront of digital innovation, with 75% of young people aged 15-24 using the internet, outpacing other age groups by 10%. This positions them as key drivers of digitalization and innovation. Despite progress in digitalization Africa still faces challenges; Some of which are as follows: - Digital divide - Limited access to technology - Outdated education systems But YOU can make the difference by SPEAKING OUT and being a VOICE to be heard by the right people ensuring that they: - Invest more in digital skills training - Encourage youth-led startups - Implement inclusive policies promoting digital inclusion and affordability. You and I have a major role to play in Africas development. (c) Global Janet. #globaljanet #happyinternationalyouthday #August2024 #development #africa #nigeria

In #Africa, social media and digital platforms have revolutionized #PublicRelations and Communication, providing unprecedented opportunities for the youth especially through civic engagement and multi-sectoral collaboration. These tools have amplified young voices, allowing us to highlight overlooked issues, participate in decision-making, and organize impactful campaigns. #Digital platforms empower young entrepreneurs by enabling them to market businesses, connect with customers, and access new markets, thus driving economic growth and job creation. The accessibility of online educational content facilitates rapid learning and upskilling, essential for not only innovation, but also personal and professional development. Moreover, digital platforms play a crucial role in cultural revival and preservation, allowing young Africans to celebrate our heritage. They also serve as powerful tools for #advocacy; mobilizing local and global support for social justice, human rights, and even environmental sustainability using viral campaigns and hashtags. Building #PanAfrican solidarity is another significant benefit of digital #communication. By fostering a shared identity and purpose, young Africans can collaborate on initiatives addressing common challenges, therefore promoting a unified approach to the continent's development. Actively expressing to and engaging with policymakers ensures that youth perspectives that reflect the country's needs and aspirations, directly influence executive policies. However, Integrating professional #PRstrategies into Digital Communication platforms is quite essential for harnessing the full potential of Pan-African #socioeconomic ascension. And by equipping young Africans with digital literacy and strategic communication skills, stakeholders like the government, educational institutions, the private sector, and NGOs truly can drive significant progress. In conclusion, by embracing Digital Public Relations empowered by Pan-Africanism, this holistic approach is sure to promote development, equity, accountability, and justice across the continent, asuring a brighter and more inclusive future. #TeamPR #WPRD

Yesterday morning, I had the privilege of attending the YearBeyond's Business Breakfast, an event that showcased the remarkable strides YearBeyond has made over the past five years. Their commitment to developing South Africa's youth is truly impressive, leaving little to the imagination in their strategic approach to empowering young people. YearBeyond is not just about creating opportunities; it's about integrating youth into their local communities and fostering economic activity, paving the way for a brighter future. Premier Alan Winde delivered an insightful speech on understanding and mitigating risks by forging pathways that enable youth to contribute positively to our country. Throughout the event, we heard firsthand from participants who shared their transformative experiences with the program. Engaging in group discussions, we explored new ideas for enhancing the program’s value and formed valuable connections with like-minded businesses. The collective vision and energy in the room were both motivating and promising for future collaborations.
