An EU initiative aims to change that by helping startups gain investors' trust—from Italy's underwater WiFi to Portugal's fish-powered farms. Across Europe, blue tech startups are charting new waters in ocean technology, tackling some of the most pressing challenges—from #renewableenergy and #bluebiotechnology to cutting-edge port logistics and #aquaculture. With support from European Union initiatives like BlueInvest, many of these innovators are securing the funding needed for scaling up. Diving into future: WSENSE and the “Internet of Underwater Things” At the Secche della Meloria marine protected area off Livorno, Italy, researchers are testing novel underwater communication tools using underwater WiFi. With specially adapted smart tablets, two marine biologists could keep in touch wirelessly while diving. Where can blue technology be applied? Developing a sustainable blue economy across marine and maritime sectors is key to the European Union's ecological transition. It can help mitigate climate change, promote a more circular economy, and foster the development of green infrastructure. Sustainable inland aquaculture: Aquaponics Iberia’s “Fish n’ Greens” vision In Torres Vedras, Portugal, Aquaponics Iberia has developed a symbiotic system where fish and plants grow together using aquaponics — a combination of inland aquaculture and hydroponics, the process of growing plants without soils. #Fish waste feeds the plants, which in turn purify the water for the fish. Play with PeatSense and provide us with any feedback you may have regarding e.g. new functionalities, and to promote the platform it within your network. Please bear in mind PeatSense is in BETA version, this means that functionalities might be limited, missing, not working too well or even not at all. PeatSense currently offers: - Maps , among which we proudly introduce an all-Ireland's raised bogs ecotope map; - A Directory, enlisting projects, organizations and much more revolving around peatlands; - The Peatland Glossary of term, maintained by our good collaborator, the Peat Hub Ireland project; - The Wish List, a page where users can post their collaboration wishes, read wishes posted by other users, and contact them should they want to help in fulfilling their wishes. In accordance with the very aims of AI2Peat, we want to make PeatSense as useful as possible and are always open for collaborations.
