#WSP: A Cautionary Tale for Aspiring Engineers #StopHiringIfYouAreNotReadyToCommit As you can see in the image attached, On February 14th, I applied to WSP, a dream company for many young engineers. In April, I received a call from the HR lead informing me that I was selected. Overjoyed, I resigned from my previous job and put other opportunities on hold, eagerly waiting for my offer letter. Weeks turned into months, and despite repeated follow-ups, I was told to wait another week, and then another. The Technical Lead who interviewed me was kind enough to take my calls, but the HR lead eventually stopped responding. With hopes of joining WSP, I wasted two months, and to this day, my application status still shows "under offer" on their official website. I've since moved on and joined another organization, but a big firm like WSP should not treat candidates this way. Such experiences can disrupt careers and lives. #ProfessionalismMatters #JobHunt #CareerJourney #WSPExperience #Civilengineer #consultant

💡 Quote for the Week: "It's not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it." - Low Holly In our fast-paced and ever-evolving industry, the challenges we face can sometimes seem overwhelming. But at Larsen & Toubro, we know that the key to overcoming these obstacles isn't just about how much we take on—it's about how we handle it. 🏗️⚙️ Whether it's managing large-scale projects, addressing complex technical issues, or meeting tight deadlines, it’s our approach, teamwork, and strategic mindset that make all the difference. 💪🌟 The way we carry our responsibilities—with focus, resilience, and a positive attitude—helps us stay ahead, no matter how heavy the load might feel. As Senior Engineers, we are constantly reminded that success is not just about hard work but also about smart work, knowing when to seek support and collaborate with others to achieve the best results. 🤝🛠️ Let’s continue to lift each other up, share the weight, and move forward together. Every challenge we face is an opportunity to learn, grow, and innovate. 🚀 #QuoteOfTheWeek #Resilience #EngineeringExcellence #TeamLNT #BuildingTheFuture #StrongerTogether #LeadershipInAction #ProjectManagement #CollaborationForSuccess

Specialist in the management and consenting of major infrastructure in England and Wales (onshore and offshore)
What do I want to achieve this year? How am I doing against my career aspirations and what do I need to do differently or improve to achieve them? I was thinking about these and other questions recently while settling into my new role at AtkinsRéalis. Indeed it's that objective setting time of year for many of us I suspect. It got me thinking about how my motivations for working in planning, energy and infrastructure have changed since starting my career 20 years ago (I still try to fool myself I haven't aged at all during that time!). I still have a passion for helping to deliver positive, meaningful and sustainable development and to ensure I challenge myself and others every day. I still want to be challenged by others, to work hard and celebrate team achievements. I still want to work with lots of amazing people who inspire me. What I realised is different (albeit has increased in prevalence each year I get older) is I now think more about what I can to nurture the next generation of people coming into this profession and to keep them here. There's so much talent, intellect and ambition out there. I've witnessed as much during graduate recruitment campaigns that I've helped to support previously. I'm also regularly impressed by colleagues far younger than me and what they are capable of achieving (and just how often they're smarter than me!). They are the future now. We're going to need all of their help (and a lot more of them) if we are to deliver what's needed and address the climate and nature emergencies.

Regional Technical Lead @ Stantec | Fellow of Institution of Civil Engineers | Fellow of Institution of Engineering and Technology. RAE Visiting Professor - University of Exeter
Wednesday Reflections What is important to you in your career? Do you plan out how to attain your goals? Do you ever lose focus, or sight of what you were aiming for? Do you plan for change? After taking on a completely new role within Stantec, a pathfinding role I suppose, I have had a lot of reflections. The way is not always clear, and it can be challenging, but it is also an exciting time with huge potential and opportunity. And it has forced me to look closely at what my goals might be and what I might need to do to achieve these goals. It also made me reflect on what drives me... For me, I realize that job satisfaction is really important. Job satisfaction varies for everyone, however for me, key to satisfaction is feeling challenged, having variety, having a sense of purpose, and being valued. When all these elements combine, I feel engaged and hopefully give my "best" to the company. What is important to you? #jobsatisfaction #motivation #feelingvalued #careerprogression

🌟 Reflecting on My Journey 🌟 Today is the last day of my near 8 year career at this company and I have mixed emotions and a lot of memories. As I'm now being made redundant and I prepare for the next chapter of my career, I can't help but take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey I've had here at First Utility/Shell Energy. It's been a whirlwind of growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences. From the day I walked through the doors, I knew I was part of something special. The camaraderie, the challenges, and the victories we've shared together have shaped me both personally and professionally. Each project, each milestone, has left an indelible mark on my career path. I am immensely grateful for the support and mentorship I've received from my colleagues and leaders. Your guidance and encouragement have been instrumental in my growth, and I carry the lessons I've learned here with me as I step into the future. While the news of redundancy brings its share of mixed emotions, I choose to focus on the positives - the memories we've created, the friendships forged, and the skills honed. As one chapter closes, another awaits, brimming with new opportunities and possibilities. To my Shell Energy family, thank you for being part of my journey. Your impact on my life will always be cherished, and I look forward to staying connected as we navigate our respective paths. Here's to new beginnings, endless possibilities, and the enduring bonds we've formed. Onward and upward! Christopher Fogler, a Director on our Power, Renewables & Energy Transition team, was a commercial fisherman before he was a consultant. We caught up with the lifelong learner for insight into his work and past experience as a summer adventure camp leader. What is your favorite part about working at FTI Consulting? Chris: The people. The leaders at FTI Consulting invest in the practice by taking an active role in the growth and development of its team members. At this stage of my career, I was looking for mentorship and guidance and an opportunity to take ownership of my own skills development by focusing on work that I find compelling. The culture at FTI Consulting and the individuals I’ve interacted with have definitely afforded me that opportunity. I like working with the people that I work with. I like sitting down and eating lunch with them. And if I have to grind long hours, these are the people that I want to do it with. What about your industry excites you? Chris: The energy space is changing daily. As the world pushes toward decarbonization, the energy paradigm is constantly being reassessed. People are taking chances. Pushing the envelope. Trying to quickly operationalize cutting-edge technologies. It feels like there is no better place to be constantly immersed in new issues, challenges and opportunities. How did your experience as a commercial fisherman help prepare you for your current role? Chris: Teamwork – it's always about teamwork. Commercial fishing, much like consulting, is a demanding, dynamic workplace. Despite the challenging environment, I found that when a string of 20-hour days had the whole crew beat down, tired and grouchy, I always had an energy reserve I could tap into to lighten someone else’s load. That same consideration applies to FTI Consulting. You were a leader at Overland Summers, a camp for children and teens around the world. What’s your most memorable adventure with the organization? Chris: I got to experience many special things and places while leading for Overland, but without a doubt, the most rewarding experiences every year were the moments of realization on the kids’ faces and the obvious love and strength of the team that we had built. The memories are rarely about the mountain summitted or the mileage ridden, but rather about that time on the side of the road in Alabama when the team first started really taking care of each other, filling each other’s water bottles and laughing genuinely at the jokes we’d developed together. #ExpertsWithImpact #TeamFTI
