Women's History Month originated from a grassroots movement in Sonoma County, California to honor women's contributions to history, culture, and society. It provides a platform to recognize trailblazing women who have shattered barriers and paved the way for future generations. Despite significant strides, women continue to face systemic barriers in various aspects of life, including the workplace, healthcare, and education. Gender pay gaps, lack of representation in leadership roles, and gender-based discrimination persist as pressing challenges that demand attention and action. This year's theme celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion”, recognizing women who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination from our lives and institutions. March is Women's History Month! We honor women of color and their critical work in the movement, while acknowledging the challenges they continue to face. It’s Women’s History Month, but what does visibility do for us? Does it bring about justice, ensure our safety, or provide genuine support? Justice for Black and Brown women demands more than visibility. It calls for liberation. Support for disabled and neurodivergent women goes beyond visibility. It calls for equity. Safety for trans and queer women isn’t achieved by mainstream visibility. It requires destigmatization. A month dedicated to us, prioritizing our stories—this gesture fall short. Singular labels have been put on women for generations. In fact, 94% of women have had labels imposed on them by others, and only 16% feel the labels given to them by others align with how they would define their true selves. Happy Universal Women's Week! From Sunday, March 10 to Saturday, March 16, this week is dedicated to commemorating the achievements of women in all fields. This is an extended period to celebrate the accomplishments women have made in history and further progress needed to continue the battle for equal rights. Universal Women's Week is a time to discuss politically the impact that women have been making in society and what aspects of culture need improvement. It is a time for women all over the world to share resources, run seminars, and help women think about the world around them and how solutions can be made for the ever presiding problems that women face. Holidays such as Universal Women’s Week help expand the education needed for women to understand how important women’s rights are so it can be explored and discussed on a global scale. On a world-wide scale, many women still do not have the resources that they deserve to be able to thrive in the world, and as a result, this holiday advocates women to strive for long-lasting solutions to benefit everyone as a whole. Let us take this week to commemorate the achievements of women in all fields, including film, business, science, and art. Let us celebrate the progress that has been made and continue to strive for equal rights for all women. #UniversalWomensWeek #EqualRights #WomenEmpowerment

As women of color, we often face unique challenges that our peers may not encounter. Microaggressions, discrimination, and systemic barriers can be frustrating and disheartening, but it's important to remember that we are not alone in these struggles. By finding mentors who share similar experiences, we can gain invaluable insights and support to navigate these challenges. It's also important to recognize the power of our voices and the value of advocating for ourselves and others. Together, we can break down barriers and pave the way for future generations of women of color.
