Process, to me, is a wide word.
Process refers to a systematic approach to achieving a certain target.
Process also refers to change. It refers to change in potential, in energy, in worth.
Process also refers to general steps. It's not detailed like procedures, but you can count on process to be at the forefront.
As a Process Engineer, I have conducted studies, provided support to troubleshooting, conducted monitoring, observed potentials in improvements.
One of the weirdest task I have done has nothing on process in actual fact. There was an issue. A starter motor for a diesel engine caught fire, twice. I was assigned to join the RCA as a team member. I went ahead and do a full-blown investigation.
The finding: It was a new diesel engine. The one it replaced has to be primed prior to start. It was stated in the operating procedure. The new one, was not mentioned to have this need in the company's operating procedure. Turns out it requires one, as stated in the OEM's operating procedure.
This was after I had called in the local PLC vendor to assist in printing out the logic (there were concerns that the timer for the motor was off), conducted voltage and amperage reading going to the motor as it was started (could it be that it is drawing more power than needed?) and finally called the diesel engine OEM to help with explaining what other factors do we need to look at. And he pointed out to the exact page.
You might think that this in turn has nothing to do with Process. Well, not really. It is. It's related to the proper process of motor start up which was not covered in the company's operating procedure post project. It is not a Chemical Engineering thing. But heck it did teach me about process control, and taught me a little bit of Electrical Engineering.
