Lovely to be back virtually with the Department of Cimate Change, Energy the Environment and Water. Virtual delivery is so good for dispersed teams - I delivered Productivity with PUNCH a couple of weeks ago and today was Difficult Conversations. This is a pretty hot topic at the moment. It used to be to be a topic just for leaders but is a key communication skill for all team members. I think with so much email communication virtual connection, and hybrid teams - sometimes there is less time available in our weeks to just authentically connect. With this in mind it can be trickier to give more difficult feedback but it can be easier to miss communicate. Miss communication can lead to unnecessary stress. 💡One top tip I share is : If you read an email and it immediately triggers an unhappy response or stressed sensation. Pick up the phone ‘ Thank them for their email - and just clarify the email message. It’s very easy to ‘bang out an email’ and sometimes it has an impact we don’t anticipate. If you’re unsure - ask! Happy Friday #Wundertraining #virtualtraining #janewundersitz #difficultconversationsy

3 Ways to Improve Communication In Your Team. Are your teams doing the basics right with communication? 1. Arrange regular catch ups - this could be a virtual coffee chat or just a regular 30min get together. This is separate to management 1-2-1s and are for the team to collaborate and share talk about problems. 2. Learn together as often as possible - in remote working environments, it's very easy to become siloed and team members will start 'going with the flow' and just tackling their own challenges. Encourage the team to share issues and potential solutions found. Amend processes and create Standard Operating Procedures if this becomes a common issue. 3. Have an open constant dialog - utilise technology like Teams or Slack to allow all team members to engage in an 'instant' manner. Set team working agreements so all members are aware when others are in focus work sessions and may not want to be disrupted. Regardless of what team environment you are in, the above 3 steps can dramatically improve the morale, the team knowledge and team cohesion. Do you do all three? Monday Insight: The Power of Effective Communication Good morning, LinkedIn community! As we dive into a new week, let's remember that strong communication is the foundation of any successful team. It's more than just exchanging information—it's about understanding, connection, and collaboration. Here are some key practices to foster excellent communication in the workplace: 1. Active Listening: Truly listen to understand, not just to respond. This builds trust and shows respect for others' perspectives. 2. Clarity and Transparency: Be clear and transparent in your communications. This reduces misunderstandings and aligns everyone towards common goals. 3. Regular Check-Ins: Hold regular team meetings and one-on-ones to ensure everyone is on the same page and feels heard. 4. Encourage Feedback: Create an environment where feedback is welcomed and valued. It helps in continuous improvement and innovation. 5. Leverage Technology: Use the right tools to facilitate communication, especially in remote or hybrid settings. Video calls, messaging apps, and collaboration platforms can bridge gaps effectively. Remember, effective communication is a two-way street. It requires effort, patience, and a genuine willingness to engage. Let's make this week about enhancing how we connect and communicate with each other. Wishing you all a week full of clear, constructive, and empowering conversations! #MondayMotivation #WorkplaceCommunication #Teamwork #Leadership #EffectiveCommunication

Productive teams require communication tools and guidelines for these tools. Disjointed communication channels kill productivity. Set clear guidelines around which tools to use for what purposes and where conversations happen. Centralise communication instead of allowing fragmented discussions across multiple platforms. This saves critical time locating past context and decisions when questions arise. I challenge you to review your existing internal communication tools or if you don't have one, pick one and spend 20 minutes creating usage guidelines for your team on how to use. Then hold a team meeting and discuss these, ensuring you're considering input from each person. Roll it out and see how you go.

Some lessons are so important that you have to keep learning them. 😊 Context matters and no I didn’t just fall out of a coconut tree. 🌴 (If you haven’t seen the Kamala Harris Brat videos yet, they're gold!) I was reminded today about how important context is when working with any team, but especially with #remoteteams. When we’re rushed, we might want to leap right into the heart of the agenda of a meeting, assuming everyone is up to speed with the topic at hand, that everyone has been privy to all the conversations that have taken place among various groups prior. But that’s rarely the case. Taking a few minutes to calmly open the meeting, remind everyone of the context, and ask if there are any questions before launching into the heart of the agenda can actually save time and set the team up for a more productive conversation. What do you think? Any other tips for effective remote meetings? #globalcommunications #teamleadership

Management Tip: #2 Communication! Always prioritize clear communication. When everyone on your team knows their roles and responsibilities, confusion is minimized and productivity soars. Clear communication ensures that everyone is on the same page, reducing misunderstandings and fostering a collaborative work environment. Make it a habit to regularly check in with your team, provide updates, and clarify any uncertainties. Encourage open dialogue and active listening. This not only helps in avoiding mistakes but also builds trust and a sense of belonging among team members. Always remember, a well-informed team is a productive team! #managementtips #managementskills #management

Thinking out loud could be considered one of the most valuable skills to possess. When you verbalize your thoughts and discuss them with a manager, colleague, or even with family and friends outside of the workplace, it can help you identify gaps in your ideas and refine them, steering them in a better direction. This is why I believe that #thinking_loud is the backbone for effective collaboration.

In every project I've ever led, people have kept secrets. - how they are really feeling about the work - what their specific and significant concerns are - whether they feel their voice is even being heard These are things that are going to sink me and the work I've been asked to lead, if I learn them too late. Over time, I've developed a way to surface them early and to open the door to the honest conversations I need for the whole project. It's a technique I recommend to clients and I use regularly myself. I was reminded of it when I used it only two weeks ago! I use it to excavate things people haven't felt safe to say, so far. I use it to surface crucial issues about the work we're doing. I use it to demonstrate that there's nothing that is unsayable, if it's in service of our shared goal. In tomorrow's FrictionFree email, I'll share the technique in full, including the template I use. Link in comments register to get it. ❓ How do you get people to talk honestly in your teams? 〰️ 👋 I’m Carrie - I reduce the friction of collaboration so companies can move faster and make better products and profits. Feel free to DM me for a conversation. Follow me for ideas on: The joy of #fewerfasterbolder meetings Transforming #workplaceculture Shifting towards #agileworking Friction free #collaboration
