On February 15th, California Nurses held an informational picket to shine a light on the chronic short-staffing problem at Oroville Hospital. These nurses are represented by the California Nurses Association and National Nurses United. The nurses claim that these conditions “jeopardize patient care and lead to high turnover and the loss of experienced nurses.” In February alone, at least two other hospitals (Albany Med and Kapiolani Medical Center) have dealt with nurses striking in protest of unsafe staffing. This article will describe the staffing issues at Oroville Hospital, the recent changes to the hospital, and what solutions they may be able to implement. https://hubs.la/Q02lNN0r0 #patientsafety #nurseburnout #understaffing #nursetopatientratios #orovillehospital

Disrupting the Status Quo Since 1982 | A Phoenix Rising Since 2019 | Survivorship Expert | Innovative Nurse Leader
Hiring more UAPs has always been something I was in favor of as a bedside nurse. Also, providing them with sufficient training, recognition, and pay. However, this is only a temporary solution. We need to start steering the ship in a different direction rather than staying the course and hoping the iceberg moves! We need to invest more in primary care and keeping med/surg patients out of the hospital, period. Let's change the curriculum for nurses and doctors to focus on public health and make hospital nursing and careers a specialty rather than the norm. Incentivize with better pay and benefits. Mitigate chronic disease conditions and then manage them better at home, where patients would rather be. #healthcare #primarycare #prevention #nursing

Are you a CNA, LPN, RN or RN supervisor? A nursing career is both demanding and deeply rewarding, attracting individuals who possess compassion, resilience, and a desire to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. Nurses play a crucial role in the healthcare system, serving as frontline caregivers, advocates, educators, and coordinators of patient care. Nurses are responsible for various tasks, including: Patient Care: Nurses provide direct care to patients, which may involve administering medication, monitoring vital signs, dressing wounds, and assisting with daily activities like bathing and eating. Assessment and Monitoring: They assess patients' health status, detect changes in condition, and communicate these findings to other members of the healthcare team. Education and Support: Nurses educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatments, and self-care techniques. They offer emotional support and guidance to patients and families facing challenging circumstances. Advocacy: Nurses advocate for their patients' needs and rights, ensuring they receive appropriate care and resources. They may collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop care plans tailored to individual patients' needs. Nurses - More Than The Room Rate Nurses are the backbone of healthcare. However, they are rolled into the room rate, making it challenging to see the economic value they add to the healthcare delivery system. The Commission for Nurse Reimbursement is fighting to change that, advocating for a reimbursement model that values nurses beyond the room rate. ✊💡 In my work as a pediatric nurse, I saw firsthand that nurses like myself are at the frontline of patient and family communication, managing inquiries via phone, email, and portal messages even during the busiest clinic days. The services nurses provide, ranging from clinical triaging, care coordination, and education, play an indispensable role in guiding patients to the appropriate level of care, preventing complications, and ultimately fostering the best health outcomes. I've lost track of how many times my response to a parent's inquiry resulted in avoiding complications from an infusion or surgery or squeezing them into the clinic schedule to find they need surgery. It's imperative that the reimbursement structure for nursing services reflects the critical nature of our roles. Join us in this mission to revolutionize how nursing services are reimbursed. Because when nurses thrive, healthcare thrives. #NursesDeserveMore #ChangeTheGame

Today I am the Nurse Clinician on call. The duties of a nurse on-call can vary depending on the specific healthcare facility or organization they work for, as well as the type of nursing specialty. Generally, the primary responsibilities of a nurse on-call include: 1. Responding to Emergencies: Nurses on-call must be available to respond promptly to any medical emergencies that may arise outside of regular working hours. 2. Providing Telephonic Advice: They may offer telephone triage and medical advice to patients, providing guidance on managing their health concerns or deciding if further medical attention is needed. 3. Patient Assessment: Nurses on-call may need to assess patients remotely over the phone to determine the severity of their condition and provide appropriate recommendations. 4. Coordination with Healthcare Team: They must communicate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care for patients. 5. Medication Management: Nurses may need to assist with medication management, advising patients on appropriate dosages and potential interactions. 6. Patient Education: Providing patients with information about their health conditions and educating them about self-care practices is another essential aspect of the job. 7. Home Healthcare: In some cases, nurses on-call may visit patients at home to provide necessary care or support. 8. Documentation: Accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions and provided care is crucial for maintaining proper records and facilitating follow-up care. 9. Follow-up: Ensuring proper follow-up care for patients after their initial contact is also part of the responsibilities. It's important to note that being on-call requires flexibility and readiness to handle unexpected situations, as nurses may be called upon at any time during their on-call shift. #travelnurse #nursing #canadiannursing
