Vulnerable moment: Divine coincidence is sometimes not evident in daily life until you take the time to reflect on what matters most. I'm currently off contract and heads down focused on my next phase of work including several conversations with groups looking to do great things. Coming off a recent interim engagement that ended abruptly, I received the news my 92 year old grandfather was in the #kaiserroseville emergency room. Grandpa is now home after he was an inpatient for 2 days receiving the necessary medications for pnemonia. He's walking around now but getting tired more quickly. This is the first extended period of time I've been off during the holidays and its for the right reasons. Life transitions can be tough. The patriarch of our family and father of 6 children (one stillborn) and husband to my 98-year-old grandmother Nellie (she robbed the cradle) has been so integral to my life. Guadalupe did everything right, he never drank, never smoked and survived the Vietnam war while serving with our Air Force, then went on to the Post Office for his second career. We can't keep grandpa still. His energy and focus are attributes that I clearly inherited. The topic of #lifestylemedicine didn't occur to me until I stopped drinking #alcohol in 2020. My family like many others with adolescents and young children struggled to maintain the #balance needed during the #pandemicresponse. Here we are three years later and #holisticliving #functionalmedincine is core to our daily routine. #Freshproduce and a #nutrientdense diet coupled with #dailyactivity and #therapeutic coping mechanisms have driven my focus and abilities to an entirely new level. My hypertension is down to normal range and i've reduced my meds, I've lost 25lbs and determined to share the recipe with anyone who needs the same. There's so much more I can say about things but will save those for another forum. Day 41: I choose to love me first by, noticing the fog. The fog is so beautiful, and yet so dangerous. Driving through it and seeing the world opening up before you. The slight haze adds to a sense of unknown mysticism, to the normal beautiful scenery. It is only there at certain times of the day and year. It makes my heart sing with a sense of adventure and excitement. It reminds me of crisp mornings, log fires, baby lambs, emus, and kangaroos. But it can mean planes can’t land, ambulances can’t drive so adds challenges. We sometimes need to get patients out to a bigger or different site - one of the challenges. And as I prepare to move sites. At the end of a long but great working day - the fog is something to consider. I chose to drive before the prospect of early morning fog this time. Even though my day was good I made a choice that this weekend my reflexes may not have been as good at missing the kangaroos. I chose my safety first. On a different day my choice may be different.
