With all the appreciation for the generous donation, the solution is not to feed the broken system more money but to fix it. Most of medical education is useless and never used in real life and early residency! The system was built a century ago and medicine is not practiced in the same way anymore! Do you really need 8 years of education to start residency?? Medical education needs to change dramatically (to more focused, shorter and more practical)

Dr. Ruth Gottesman's recent act of generosity symbolizes the transformative power of education… particularly in underserved communities like the Bronx (NYC’s poorest borough). Education equips us with the knowledge and skills that are necessary to navigate the world and contribute to our communities. The result of a good education means societal progress and individual opportunity. This donation underscores the importance of investing in education (especially in fields like medicine) where access to quality healthcare can really impact lives! Having tuition taken care of eliminates a significant financial barrier that often prevents people from pursuing their dreams… it helps democratize access to education, ensuring that talented and passionate individuals (regardless of their socioeconomic background) have the opportunity to pursue careers… which, in turn, helps social mobility and our communities. I do believe that having wealth and/or privilege comes with a responsibility to uplift others and create opportunities for future generations. This sends a powerful message that I hope empowers other individuals to make a difference in the world… even if they don’t have a billion dollars! https://lnkd.in/gh4ginjz

Bloomberg Philanthropies donated $1 billion to make Johns Hopkins Medical School and other healthcare graduate schools free for students. This is a step in the right direction, as the training process is long for physicians. Many decide to become physicians for the betterment of patient care, but this mission fades away when physicians face the exorbitant cost of medical school tuition and the stress of student debt. So far, the only solutions are state schools and some schools with free tuition. However, one must be a resident in that certain state to receive tuition remission, and only a couple of schools are free with hard acceptance rates. When physicians graduate residency, they have no hard skills to run practices, deal with insurance companies, or have the business skills to grow in an organization. I am working with organizations to develop a healthcare business education program for residents at residency programs across the US. It is time to change the healthcare education and training system in the US.

Here’s a great look in to the details of my previous post.
A Texas-sized thank you goes out to Kay and Billy Torrence for their investment in the future of health science education in Kilgore. Kilgore College received a substantial donation from the Torrence Family for the naming rights of the college’s new health science educational facility. The official name of the structure - the Torrence Health Science Education Center - was unveiled at a special ceremony Tuesday, June 18. Thoughts? Hospitals in America are falling victim to a shocking scheme orchestrated by for-profit investors. By selling off hospital land to little-known real-estate investor, Medical Properties Trust, communities are left to suffer. Financial struggles, lack of access to healthcare, and bankruptcies have devastated low-income communities. Private-equity firms, like Cerberus, Leonard Green, and Apollo, have profited while cutting off care. Moment students find out their tuition has been paid for: 😁 😁 😁 Gottesman told the Times she immediately knew what she wanted to do with the funds. “I wanted to fund students at Einstein so that they would receive free tuition,” she said. Half of Einstein’s most recent class of students are New Yorkers, according to the medical school – 59% are women and the majority are people of color. And Einstein’s students graduate with higher amounts of debt than other medical students at New York City schools. Gottesman told the Times that she hopes her donation will help alleviate the financial burden graduating students face. She said she also hopes that it makes medical school more accessible to those who could not previously afford it : https://lnkd.in/dRHGFXvr #freeeducation #StudentdebtsRising #Leadtoserve #makeanimpact #EraseHighRegFees

Another win for humanity!! Dr. Ruth Gottesman donated USD 1 Billion to Albert Einstein College of Medicine to be used for tuition for medical students. Making medical tuition free in perpetuity for the students. This is one of the largest donations ever made to a US school and to a medical school This brought tears to my eyes....let's keep paying it forward and be the change we want to see. Today is #PittDayofGiving. And I feel strongly that you, reading this, should give a small (or large!) donation to the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA). I gave to support scholarships. Here's my case: 1. Never before has our divided country, and the world, needed intelligent and empathetic leadership in the public sector more than now. Public service graduate schools like GSPIA train these leaders. 2. AND graduates of schools like GSPIA, on average, do not make the money that individuals with law, medical, business or many other graduate degrees make upon graduation in order to pay back their loans. This can deter qualified candidates from pursuing these degrees and in turn, public service. 3. If you're reading this in Pittsburgh, chances are you know a GSPIA graduate and they are in the social, public, or private sector in Pittsburgh, making moves to improve our city and our world. 4. By giving today, you unlock matching funds! So consider giving to GSPIA today during #PittDayOfGiving to support our future politicians, nonprofit leaders, and private sector advocates so that they may go forth and serve others. And thank you!
