Kore Hiakai Zero Hunger Collective have released its latest resource, Kai Motuhake Re-indigenising and re-localising food systems: A starting place to tackle the legacy of colonisation in Aotearoa. A must read, think, and act article for all of us working in food systems across Aotearoa, and indeed abroad, as the themes are deeply transferable. Powerful questions arise - Why am I at this decision making table? Who do I represent? How do I honour their voice and bring their voice to this table? Who is at the decision-making table? Who is missing? How might you create space for them? Do I need to step back, so space is created for others whose voice needs to be heard? https://lnkd.in/gHqmUM45

🌳 Restoring the Lungs of the Earth: A Path Toward a Greener Future 🌍 The Amazon Rainforest, aptly called the "lungs of the Earth," has been under siege for decades due to deforestation driven by agricultural expansion, logging, and infrastructure development. With over 17% of its original coverage lost by 2020, the stakes are extraordinarily high—for biodiversity, climate stability, and the communities that rely on this critical ecosystem. Encouragingly, restoration initiatives, particularly in Brazil, demonstrate a concerted commitment to reversing these trends. These efforts involve more than planting trees; they represent a beacon of collaboration between governments, indigenous groups, and organizations dedicated to sustainable development. Reforestation programs, highlighted in a recent article by Borneo Bulletin, spotlight the importance of planting native trees, adopting agroforestry practices, and protecting biodiversity. Agroforestry, for instance, blends native species with crops, offering economic benefits to farmers while reducing pressure on forested areas. Technology plays a pivotal role, with drones planting trees across vast landscapes and satellite tools monitoring restoration efforts efficiently. Add to this international collaboration—like the United Nations' REDD+ program—and hope takes root. Financial incentives, cutting-edge technology, and grassroots campaigns are all coming together to protect what remains and restore what was lost. The challenge, however, is monumental. Climate change heightens the risk, with rising temperatures and altered rainfall patterns threatening to transform swaths of the Amazon into savanna-like ecosystems. Sustainable initiatives must align with broader climate action plans to achieve meaningful progress. Public awareness and robust policy enforcement are equally critical. Stricter regulations on illegal logging and land clearing, alongside educational programs focused on conservation and sustainable forest management, emphasize the role of people and policy. Restoring the Amazon is more than mitigating climate change or preserving biodiversity. It's about ensuring the resilience of our planet—and honoring the lives and cultures deeply intertwined with the forest. Every tree planted is a symbol of commitment and hope. Let’s work together, leveraging technology, resources, and collaboration, to support efforts like those spotlighted in these projects. The health of the Amazon is a shared responsibility—and its restoration is a legacy we must strive to achieve. What are your thoughts on the role of global collaboration and technology in large-scale environmental restoration efforts? The narrative of the episode "Woman in Distress," which is linked here, has been in circulation for over two decades; however, it has only recently been the subject of discussion. The western world has not yet engaged in a discussion regarding the field. I felt compelled to share the story of the extreme suffering that the women of Bangladesh's coastal region endured after covering the 2023 International Climate Conference (COP28UAE) for five days. Consequently, this project was successfully concluded after extensive discussion with numerous research institutes, office management, and exploration of potential areas. The program conducted interviews with all potential constituents of the issue, despite the fact that solution journalism may not have been flawless in this instance. We have conducted a separate survey to determine whether the uterine tumours have actually increased as a result of the saline water. Alternatively, are there additional issues that are related to hygiene? Nevertheless, we are certain that there is a correlation between environmental devastation and unplanned economic development. In this particular instance, the health crisis of coastal women, which was concealed as illicit finacing, has provided us with a bleak outlook. NB: Due to the Bengali language of broadcast, an English translation of the whole script of the worldwide version of the program is posted in the comments section.

Malaysia's commitment to sustainable palm oil production also plays a crucial role in mitigating deforestation. By promoting sustainable agricultural practices and working closely with local communities and stakeholders, Malaysia is fostering a balance between economic development and environmental conservation. An essential part of this commitment is adherence to the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil certification, which guarantees that palm oil production meets stringent environmental and social standards. #NSTBusinessTimes Read 'Reforesting for the future of elephants and orangutans' here: https://lnkd.in/grhpNpu7
