The football culture of Goa fits so well into what we are trying to do with plastic waste in the state. Goa with a population of 14.5 million people is known to have the highest per capita consumption of single use plastic in the country. This is estimated to be 22 kgs per person per year in Goa as against an average of 15 kgs in India. Our Project SAIM in association with WWF-India is now operating in south #Goa. The project is looking to enhance the existing system in Goa by providing opportunities for post consumer dry waste to be aggregated in our Material Recovery Facility. However, if we have to score a win for the environment, we still need to choose to #reduce before we #recycle. We would like tourists to take simple steps to reduce their plastic footprint. How about packing a reusable container for takeaways?
