There are only a few cancer vaccines that��ve been approved to use on patients. The majority of the cancer vaccines are still in clinical trial and you cannot use them. My name is Yang Claire Zeng. I'm a Senior Scientist at Wyss Institute and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. A cancer vaccine is a type of treatment that will educate your immune system to go after, to kill the cancer cells. Once we give the cancer vaccine, your body has the capability to establish the long-term immunity, and that will prevent the cancer cells from coming back. Cancer vaccines are different from other vaccines because they go after the cancer cells specifically. Also, they're used after patients have been diagnosed with cancer. Other vaccines, such as infectious disease vaccines for Covid, flu, they were used before they have the disease. Cancer vaccine can also serve as a prevention. Some of the vaccines, like the HPV vaccine, do have a function of preventing the cancers. So far, there are many failed cancer vaccine trials, so we're really trying to figure out the most effective cancer vaccine.
