🔥🌲 Wildfires in California: A Geographic Perspective (2012 - 2022) 🌍📊 I’m excited to share an interactive map that highlights the wildfires that occurred in California during the period from 2012 to 2022. 🌡️🔥 The primary goal of this map is to: Identify the affected counties in California that were impacted by wildfires. Showcase the areas burned during this period, emphasizing the scale and distribution of the wildfires. Project Objectives: Provide a clear and informative overview of wildfire impacts in California. Help researchers and decision-makers better understand the geographic patterns of wildfires. Support efforts in environmental planning and disaster management by using GIS technologies. 🌟 GIS Tools and Techniques Used: Data analysis and visualization with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Interactive mapping to deliver precise and actionable insights. I look forward to your feedback and suggestions on how we can use GIS to further explore and address environmental challenges. 🌱🌍 #GIS #WildfireMapping #CaliforniaWildfires #EnvironmentalImpact #ArcGIS

Any guesses what this map shows? 🔍 You'll have to read on for the answer! This is one of many maps we make using GIS software, and it's definitely one of the more straightforward ones! The software can be used for simple maps but, if you're one of the GIS geniuses in our team, then you can use multiple datasets layered on top of each other to create complex landscape scale analyses 👩🏽💻 For example, when we're identifying priority woodland sites (hint hint 😉), we can combine data on existing woodland cover, existing land use, rainfall levels, overland flow paths, topography, water quality, wildlife populations, human populations, accessibility, public rights of way, and human health- and this is just the tip of the iceberg. As you might have guessed, this map shows all of our historic woodland sites 🌳 #Maps #MapMonday #GIS #DataAndEvidence #EnvironmentalScience #RiverGeeks

i have completed the basic course of GIS. It was a productive and practical workshop on GIS. Though i have learned a little but in a practical way. I know the basic tools and uses of GIS and can analyse . It has enhanced my knowledge and skills. #GIS #Fisheries #Maping #Workshop #Fish #Management #Map #Tools #Skills #Knowledge #Improve #Achivement #Certificate #Analyse

Check out this map timelapse which shows the number of hectares that are now under management thanks to the efforts of The Forest Bridge Trust. The Forest Bridge Trust is on a mission to create a kiwi-safe corridor of land between Tāwharanui on the east coast and the Kaipara Harbour on the west. Save the Kiwi funds some of this work through the Jobs for Nature scheme. The gains that The Forest Bridge Trust has made are proof of the power of a few things: 💰Funding. When there is funding, excellent results can be achieved. The work of volunteers is so important, but it can’t be solely relied upon to protect our wildlife and save our iconic species at scale. 🧑🤝🧑Community. The Forest Bridge Trust continues to do an excellent job at engaging landowners in their project area to join their mission to create this safe corridor. 🤝Collaboration. These kinds of results can only be achieved when likeminded organisations come together. Save the Kiwi proudly works alongside community groups that are passionate about the work they do, the species they’re working to protect, and the future they’re trying to create. Under the Jobs for Nature scheme, Save the Kiwi funds 12 projects around the country. From the middle of this year, Jobs for Nature funding will start to be phased out. Many Jobs for Nature-funded projects around the country fear the biodiversity gains they’ve made over the last 3-5 years will all be in vain if this funding isn’t replaced. At Save the Kiwi, we understand that money is tight. But the environment is vitally important to the future of our nation, our children, and our livelihoods. In the midst of change, we hope the government has a plan to put the environment first. #savethekiwi #kiwisaver #jobsfornature #mahimōtetaiao #departmentofconservation Department of Conservation (DOC)
GIS, or Geographic Information System, plays a pivotal role in our conservation efforts. From tracking and predicting kiwi movement to pinpointing redundant traps and identifying optimal trap placements. Helen from our community liaison team shares, "GIS Mapping allows us to create bird’s eye view maps for larger landowners or working farms, making it easy for them to oversee all their trap locations." Pablo our GIS expert has enriched our Forest Bridge map (spanning from Tāwharanui to the Kaipara Harbour) by adding layers. This enhancement allows us to visualize which pests have been captured, where, and when they were caught. Pablo's skill with GIS Mapping is an invaluable asset, enhancing our precision in conservation efforts. Find out more about how we use GIS Mapping https://lnkd.in/gCDgeKCk . The Forest Bridge Trust acknowledges the ongoing predator control efforts undertaken by community groups throughout our rohe . . . #GISMapping #ConservationTechnology #conservationeducation #GIS #Conservation #NGO #NewZealand #Mapping #community
