As Mental Health Awareness Month unfolds, we're reminded of the profound impact mental well-being plays in overall health. This month, we're committed to fostering a supportive environment that prioritizes the mental health of both our care teams and patients. So this X space happened and well, I was honored to moderate the discussion for at least 90 minutes and what a talk we had. With an incredible team in an influential and experienced senior PR at Airtel Uganda, Faisal Pyepar, BscTEL, OOH, Dr. Mpamizo Emmanuel a psychiatrist, Ms. Obalim Grace a clinical psychologist with TPO Uganda - Transcultural Psychosocial Organization and Mr. Kasura Francis Business Unit Head, fireworks Advertising (U) Limited. The discussion addressed the following; 1. How people's professional images and public relations impact their willingness to seek help or accept help from others. 2. The role organizations and public relations campaigns play in fostering an environment where people feel comfortable to seek help. 3. How marketing campaigns can be designed to raise awareness about mental health and encourage people to seek help when they need it. 4. Effective communication strategies to approach friends that may need help without making them feel defensive or embarrassed? 5. The early warning signs that friends and family members should look for to identify if someone might be struggling with their mental health. 6. The role of psychosocial support in mental health care, and how friends can provide the type of support to someone in need. 7. Steps friends should take if they believe someone is in a mental crisis and how they can ensure individuals get help when they need it. 8. How roles of psychologists and psychiatrists differ when it comes to helping someone in need and how a friend can know which professional to recommend. 9. When medication is necessary, how friends can approach the topic of psychiatric treatment with someone who might need it. 10. How friends can support others already undergoing psychiatric treatment to ensure they adhere to their treatment plans.
