Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) are the unsung heroes of cyber security, yet they face an uphill battle daily: • Evolving threats vs. limited budgets • Board-level pressure vs. operational realities • Innovation demands vs. security constraints • Compliance requirements vs. business agility • Talent shortages vs. increasing attack surfaces CISOs aren't just guardians; they're strategists, educators, and risk managers rolled into one. But they can't do it alone. Is your organisation empowering its CISO to succeed? Or are they fighting with one hand tied behind their back? Let's discuss how to turn security from a roadblock into a business enabler. Your CISO (and your data) will thank you. https://lnkd.in/eaEWaJ3n

Think you’re too smart to fall for a cyber attack? Think again. 🧠 Overconfidence bias is the “it won’t happen to me” mindset that leads many to underestimate the sophistication of social engineering and the risk of a data breach. ⚠️ Even the most experienced professionals can fall victim, skipping basic precautions and neglecting security protocols because they think they’re immune. In reality, overconfidence can lead to critical vulnerabilities. So, how do you keep your team on their toes and counter overconfidence? Building the FUTURE @ Perceptive | Tech, Data Analytics and AI aficionado | AUTOMATE the boring stuff
"Companies cannot be 100% protected from every cyber eventuality" Interesting article by the Harvard Business Review Basically, it says that an attack will eventually happen because the "bad guys" will only need a small crack and, it’s impossible to be completely protected from every vulnerability. The solution? Let go of the prevention mindset and adopt one focused on #resilience A resilience mindset adds a layer: while you do all you can to prevent an attack, you also work with the expectation that they still might break through your defenses and invest heavily preparing to respond and recover when the worst happens. Let me know if it makes sense!!

Investigating the mental aspects of resilience is important as we strive to strengthen the cyber workforce. Cybersecurity professionals need to be resilient to handle the stress and challenges of their professions. Resilience isn't a passing fad; it's a necessary quality. If we understand and use the psychology of resiliency to create an environment that supports mental and emotional strength, we can take a greater stance on cybersecurity. As cyber security professional, we know the critical role that a Security Operations Center (SOC) plays in protecting our organizations. But did you know that the reporting function within the SOC is just as vital? 🤔 From the L-1 analysts who gather and analyze the data, to the L-2 specialists who dive deeper into incidents and the SOC manager overseeing the entire operation - reporting is the thread that binds it all together. 📊 Without robust, data-driven reporting, the SOC becomes a black box, leaving decision-makers in the dark and hindering the team's ability to identify trends, optimize workflows and make informed strategic decisions. 🔍 It's time to elevate the importance of reporting in your SOC. Invest in the right tools, processes and talent to ensure your SOC is operating at peak efficiency and delivering the insights needed to stay ahead of evolving threats. 💪 The future of your organization's security depends on it. #SOC #CyberSecurity #CyberSafeBharat

What is the cyber human factor? The human factor has less to do with actual error and more to do with inadequate security cultures and the exploitation of human behaviour and goodwill. By better understanding the way in which people operate in the workplace, as well as how malicious actors set out to exploit classic human traits, it is possible to identify and address areas of human fallibility. Remember: · Be aware: Regularly assess your cyber risks and prioritise actions based on impact and budget · Be proactive: Remember security basics and proactively test for vulnerabilities · Be prepared: Have your incident response plan in place, your workforce prepped, and alternatives decided ahead of time #riskculturelab #riskculture https://lnkd.in/dkJAGYv

Something I've noticed is that cybersecurity discussions in the boardroom tend to have the wrong lens of focus. Board discussions tend to focus on measures taken for protection - e.g., investment in tooling, the results of a recent phishing simulation (the latter of which I don't think is a useful indicator at all). Whilst it's important to spend to protect our assets (and ensure adequate ROI), if the conversation remains ring-fenced to protection only, we're missing a vital part of the picture - resilience. I argue this should be the primary focus. Assuming the worst will happen (we all know it's not a question of if, but when) and testing/planning for such scenarios. Preparing orgs to respond and recover with minimal damage, reputational impact and cost is vital. Metrics on cyber protection are useful, but they don't give the right level of detail to enable a board to assess resilience.
