Strategist 🚀 Defense Advanced Manufacturing Talent & Innovation Consultant • Communications Pro 🛰 USMC Combat Veteran
Scale AI has been tapped by the Pentagon's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) to create a comprehensive testing and evaluation (T&E) framework for large language models within the Defense Department. This one-year contract will enable the CDAO to safely deploy AI by measuring model performance, offering real-time feedback for warfighters, and creating specialized public sector evaluation sets for military support applications. Large language models (LLMs) and generative AI technologies hold immense potential for the DoD, but they also present unique challenges. Scale AI is also working on a pilot project at the Port of Ponce, Puerto Rico, to create a Smart Port Lab. The project involves developing AI-enabled infrastructure to improve port operations, including autonomous inspection systems, container tracking, and digital document processing [see Ryan Petersen Flexport & tackling schlep blindness]. The goal in Ponce is to enhance efficiency, increase trade fluidity, and make Ponce a critical logistics hub. Scale AI has partnered with industry leaders like Meta, Microsoft, the U.S. Army, the Defense Innovation Unit, OpenAI, General Motors, Toyota Research Institute, Nvidia, and many others. #ScaleAI #ArtificialIntelligence #AIForDefense #GenerativeAI #largelanguagemodels #TestingAndEvaluation #CDAO #DoD #Innovation #DefenseContracting #DefenseTech #PuertoRico

For better or for worse? I think the EU does well to at least lay down a foundation to ensure ethical use of technology. Although I haven’t read any mentions about military use? What’s the point of limiting AI on a few areas when it has unlimited growth potential in others? Read more in the article 'The EU’s AI Act is now in force': https://lnkd.in/dFjb7QNH

Excited to share my latest article for the #JAPCC Journal. #ChatGPT disrupts the industry, providing new capabilities to individuals and businesses, but what about the military? Could it give the advantage on the battlefield? Those questions I try to address in this article, and also to provide an overview of the challenges assosiated to #LLMs, and how they can revolutionize modern warfare, improve decision-making, and enhance ISTAR operations. Couldn’t agree more with our federal advisor GEN (Ret) Stephen Townsend that as the United States Department of Defense selects its AI use cases, adopting the Intelligence Community’s trusted #AI tools is key for speed. “[AI] is not about replacing our analysts and decision makers, it’s about making them better and far faster. DOD leaders can quickly yet prudently do this by embracing the pre-cleared, trusted AI tools in use by the IC and SOF. In so doing, they can ultimately reduce time to insight for leaders both on the ground and at the highest levels of command, to deter and, if need be, respond.” Read a summary of Gen Townsend’s article: https://lnkd.in/g5XreQEZ
