Oracle 19c : Backup & Recovery 1) We cannot manage the flashback logs in FRA directly other than by using flashback retention target or using guaranteed restore point. From Oracle 19c onwards, flashback logs which are older as compare to retention period are automatically deleted. To use this feature, COMPATIBLE should be set to 19.0.0 or higher. 2) From 19c, we can connect to recovery catalog when the target database is PDB ( Pluggable database) 3) From 19c onwards, Data recovery advisor (DRA) feature is depreciated, including few Oracle RMAN commands : List failure, Advise failure, Repaid Failure and Change Failure. Data Recovery Advisor is a tool which helps reduce database recovery time by determining best available repair option for database failure. #Oracle #19c #backup #recovery

Oracle 23c introducing a new feature "Lock free Reservations" that can be used on frequently updated columns. I am very excited about this feature, and waiting to use it. I still did not work with 23c, so I did not have a first hand experience yet. Below are two links that explains how "Reservable" columns work. I am wondering how this reservations work on columns where we need to decrease the value of that column (for example: Quantity on hand) especially when there is a business rule such as Quantity on hand cannot be a negative number and the transactions may resulting a negative value (because of the transaction application happens at the time of committing the record). What error Oracle throws and what happens to the updates that have already been applied for the other columns (I assume it is rolling back the changes with an error) Below are two links that explain how "reservable" columns work in action, and considerations/limitations on what operations can be done on those columns. Thanks to Connor McDonald, and Tim Hall for taking time to explain the feature. https://lnkd.in/gEF7BDn6 https://lnkd.in/gv6hfmxh.
