On 19 June 2024,ย Giuseppe (Giberto) Chiricoย attended the management committee & working groups' meeting ofย IMPROVE - 3Rs concepts to improve the quality of biomedical science (CA21139)ย as one of the leaders of the Working Group 2.ย Giuseppe (Giberto) Chiricoย is coordinating the preparation and disseminationย of a survey ๐ at the EU ๐ level within the project on the implementation of the 3R's principles.ย ๐ญ IMPROVE - 3Rs concepts to improve the quality of biomedical science (CA21139)ย main aim is to establish a network which will work to refine, harmonize and promote 3Rs concepts, data and document. ๐ข Exciting News! ๐ Our latest research paper titled "CT Perfusion Map Synthesis from CTP Dynamic Images Using a Learned LSTM Generative Adversarial Network for Acute Ischemic Stroke Assessment" has been published in the Journal of Medical Systems (https://lnkd.in/etbaV3-V)! ๐๐ง I'm thrilled to share that our work on leveraging LSTM Generative Adversarial Networks for synthesizing CT perfusion maps from dynamic CTP images has been published. This innovative approach holds significant promise for enhancing acute ischemic stroke assessment, offering potential improvements in diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes. I want to extend my gratitude to my co-authors Dr. Brian Buck and Dr. Pierre Boulanger for their invaluable contributions to this project. It's truly been a team effort, and I'm proud of what we've accomplished together. The best AAV capsid ever is useless if it can't package the transgene. However, fixing this problem is the topic of today's paper. Here's what the researchers did: 1. They started with a standard insertion library for AAV capsids. 2. The "packaging fitness" of each variant in the library was given a score. 3. The "packaging fitness" estimations were then used as labels to build a predictive model. 4. A machine learning design approach was developed to engineer an AAV capsid library that has wide diversity WITH a good "packaging fitness" score. The Results: 1. Their design approach yielded an AAV capsid library with a 5X higher packaging fitness than the control library. Not only that, but capsid diversity was relatively unimpacted. 2. The researchers then demonstrated the utility of their designed library in a primary human brain tissue selection. The ML-guided library yielded ten times the number of infectious variants compared to the control library. This is an incredible accomplishment. Exciting day at Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhuset!Today I had the opportunity to work on a fascinating lab project utilizing a clinical 3T MRI scanner.We conducted experiments with 7 vials containing agarose gels with different T1 and T2 values.T1 values between ~20-50ms and T2~10-200ms.Grateful for the opportunity to learn and understand with this hands-on experience!#MRI#Medicalimaging#Labproject

Excited to be in #Heidelberg, where being inscribed as a #MedicalStudent for the second part of my Medical studies in 1987. And very happy to attend the 13th biannual #Meeting of the #DGfB (https://lnkd.in/deEjwYsU) (#DeutscheGesellschaftBiomechanik) onApril 24-26, kindly organized by the current president J. Philippe Kretzer. This was"only" 21 years after I had the pleasure in organizing the 3rd Meeting at the #Institute_of_Anatomy at #LMU in #Munich, with great support of by boss at the time, Prof. Reinhard Putz, who still is an extremely valuable mentor and friend. Our presentation on the 26th, in Session 15, themed #Biological #Tissue dealt with fully #automated analysis (#segmentation) of #cartilage transverse relaxation times (#T2), using #AI- and #deep_learning based #CNN (#convolutional_neural_network) algorithms. T2 is regarded a measure of #cartilage_quality (#composition), related to cartilage #histology, #mechanical_properties, and #early_osteoarthritis. In our present study, technical and clinical #validation of fully automated T2 analysis was performed both cross sectionally and longitudinally, in participants with #anterior_cruciate_ligament (#ACL) #injury with a without surgical treatment, and #healthy_controls. The work was performed in collaboration with Nicholas Brisson's group at Charite Berlin, and was supported by the #OA_Bio project (#Eurostars: #European_Union #Horizon_2020 research and innovation program, and #BMBF) led by francis berenbaum and 4P-Pharma. The MRI data and manual reference segmentations had been previously obtained within the #OVERLOAD - #PrevOP project, led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ing. Georg Duda. Thanks to all to make it happen!
