🌏 Next week is the 2024 Japan Oil & Gas Methane Workshop, facilitated by Environmental Defense Fund as part of the European Union Climate Dialogues. 🛰 Manfredi Caltagirone, Head of the UN Environment Programme's IMEO, will join to discuss the role of credible data in accurately assessing emissions and deploying targeted solutions at scale. 🤝 This workshop will provide a pivotal platform for advancing multilateral dialogue, fostering collaboration, and promoting alignment to ensure secure and transparent global LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) markets while reducing methane emissions per the Global Methane Pledge and the Joint Declaration from Energy Importers and Exporters on Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Fossil Fuels. 🌐 The international event will gather key stakeholders from the industry, policy, and science community, including senior representatives from the European Commission and the Delegation of the European Union to Japan, to facilitate impactful discussions on policies, measures, and standards. A new report from National Energy System Operator (#NESO) on the Government’s 2030 clean power target, has at least one bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (#BECCS) unit online in 2030. 🗞️ At Drax, we have plans to install at least two units of BECCS at Drax Power Station, with the first operational in 2030 removing 4 million tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere annually. 🌎 NESO’s findings show that we must move at speed to meet the Government’s goals.
