Have you ever wondered why #cricket is a religion in India? The simple answer is that “It connects”. No doubt, every sport in some way or the other teaches us something. But for Indians, cricket is simply the way to connect. The sport has been a source of happiness for many of us. No doubt why #IPL had a tagline “Ye hai India ka tyohar”. While growing up, we often look up to becoming like someone. In India, approximately every 1 out of 3 children wants to become a cricketer (I was one of them too :)) Our dad’s generation used to look up to Sachin Tendulkar, the millennials use to look up to MS Dhoni while the current generation looks up to the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and the list goes on. These icons teaches us the most important lessons of life. •Patience & Discipline is the key to success: Be it cricket, or any sport or the matter of fact our lives, we usually don’t make through our target in the very first go. We need to be patient and trust the process. This only comes with discipline i.e. following the process irrespective of the result. •Competition is good: There’s a saying that if you are the smartest in the class, you are in the wrong class. Competition makes you feel anxious and stressed that ultimately makes you work on yourself and get better. We need to see competition in a good way rather than taking a back seat. •Enjoy what you are doing: If you take whatever you are doing as an obligation, it will be very tough for you to make through it. If you have chosen your target according to your desire and you enjoy it, the journey becomes much more easier. All these legends have done nothing different but a lot of hardwork, discipline, dedication and most importantly they enjoyed what they were doing. I as an individual get really inspired from these athletes, and trust me if you try to understand an athlete’s mindset you can do wonders going forward. I hope you enjoyed reading this post. #Chandu_Champion #movie_review The title of the movie is not expressive to make a person understand the depth of the movie. In rural Maharashtra, 'chandu' is referred to as the one thinking about the moon (Chandra). In simple words, a day dreamer. This movie is about a 7 year old youngster who wanted to become an Olympic Gold Winner. Hailing from a remote village of Sangli, Maharashtra, Murlikant Petkar tried 3 sports - Wrestling, boxing and Swimming. He joined Armed forces and miraculously ditched death many times - 9 bullets hit him during the 1965 Indo-Pak war, he survived a suicide attempt of consuming 30 sleep pills with Alcohol. He was truly born to win!!! The best scene of the movie for me was when his coach Ali sir instilled within him the competitive spirit to participate in the Paralympic and try to win Gold for the country through swimming when Murli himself had lost all hopes of even survival. He participated, he practiced, he won the First Gold Paralympic Medal in swimming for India. He was rightly conferred upon Padmashri by the Government of India. A proud moment!!! How a single victory can leave a lasting impact on billions of people? A week ago, Manu Bhaker opened India's account for Olympic medals, winning a bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event. And within the next 3 days, we got two more medals in shooting - Sarabjot Singh and Manu Bhaker's bronze in mixed team air pistol and Swapnil Kusale's bronze in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event. Swapnil Kusale, in an interview, revealed how the success of his fellow shooters motivated him to do his best. He also drew inspiration from MS Dhoni, as both are employed with Indian Railways, Swapnil as a ticket collector and Dhoni as a former ticket collector. This trend is not only true in the current Olympics but has been visible for quite some time. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore's silver medal in the 2004 Olympics marked the beginning of India's success in shooting, with a total of 7 medals won since then. Saina Nehwal's bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic Games paved the way for India's dominance in badminton, with P V Sindhu taking the baton forward and winning a silver and a bronze medal in the next two Olympics, respectively. Both men and women badminton players have been performing exceptionally well in the last few years. Scoring 200 runs in an ODI cricket match was a distant dream until Sachin Tendulkar achieved it, and since then, the record has been broken multiple times by Indian players as well as others. The same is true in the Indian startup world. The success of many startups has increased the belief of many young Indian entrepreneurs. The Indian startup ecosystem is exponentially growing with young minds challenging established brands in every space. That's why I think, any single achievement is not just the victory of one person but an important step that can fuel the growth of an entire country. October 29, 1983. A historic day in the world of #cricket - Indian cricket! The OG Little Master, #SunilGavaskar had equaled the Great Don's 29 Test Hundreds! A few days ago, I wrote about what #MihalyCsikszentmihalyi describes as a state of #flow. It was about one of those times when I experienced it (check here: https://lnkd.in/dfrz7298) Flow is that immersive, energized focus where everything else fades away, and you're fully absorbed in the task at hand. Yesterday, I found myself reminiscing about a remarkable moment in cricket history while in conversation with a friend. It brought to mind Sunil Gavaskar's incredible feat — a perfect illustration of how greatness operates, making accomplishments seem like mere consequences. In the second test match of the series against the West Indies, at Delhi, Gavaskar casually whipped a delivery from Malcolm Marshall past the boundary, not realizing the significance of the moment. It took his teammate, Vengsarkar, to shake him out of his reverie and remind him — he had just equaled the Great Don's 29 Test Hundreds! What's intriguing is how Gavaskar achieved this feat seemingly effortlessly. It's a phenomenon described by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi as a state of flow, where the mind operates in a zone of optimal performance. From a #neuroscience perspective, achieving flow involves a process called transient hypofrontality, where the prefrontal lobe temporarily shuts down, allowing the implicit mind to take over and engage in a creative process. How does one attain this state? By staying away from attention-robbers prevalent in our fast-paced lives. Gavaskar's intense concentration was so profound that he didn't even notice he had reached the landmark century. A passion is an interest or goal individuals invest time and effort into to grow in their personal or professional life. But there is something more to it. onFocus—"…Chandu Champion": A Heartfelt Reflection ???????? I have just watched a movie called *Chandu Champion*. It moved my heart so much. The story about Murlikant Petkar, who battled unimaginable hardships, can easily inspire one about life and the indomitable spirit of a human being. One line which went abidingly in my mind long after the credits rolled was, *"Aye, hasta kyu h?"* This simple question conveys a deep message—never look down upon any person, as you can't predict the wars they may have fought or the heights they might one day reach. Murlikant Petkar's journey—from Olympic boxer to suffering a life-changing injury during army service, to becoming India's first Paralympic gold medalist—is rather extraordinary. At the core of his story lies the spirit that has never surrendered to pain and loss. His courage and grit won him a not only a gold medal but also the Padma Shri, to which the President of India awarded him—an extremely considerate gesture toward his unyielding spirit, an inspiration for us all. Watching *Chandu Champion* again reminded me of something: the challenges of life may break us or build us—the way we respond to them is up to us. So, Petkar decided to fight, to rise, and inspire a nation. His story is one of hope; even in the most desolate times in our lives, we can still summon the strength to create our own light. He deserves our appreciation for the tremendous effort...for making it so far. What should be the role of the coaches ? Do they really need to discuss the feedback meant for the player with the media? Is this how we treat loss...in sports? Is there no respect for the years of discipline,effort and dedication if the player doesn't make it to the podium? Mental Skills are a very important part of the training process.Don't the coaches have a role there too in terms of identifying Training Needs of their players in good time and providing the appropriate professional support? The media must display maturity and not forget:behind the badminton player is a human being who is trying to deal with the pain and disappointment of a lost opportunity. Sportspersons deserve our respect...irrespective of the outcomes. The media is sharing an interview with the coach analysing Lakshya Sen's performance. Self reflection is so crucial. The coach asking the player to take responsibility must do the same. Was there something Indian coaches should have done while the matches were in crucial stages during play?A look at the role of Axelsen's coach during the match against Lakshya speaks volumes .A passionate nudge by the coach...well timed ,can be a powerful catalyst . Feedback is a very important aspect of the training process undoubtedly. What is equally important though...is the timing and how it is delivered. There's a lot of room for reflection. For change.
