How to live longer? Improve your cardiorespiratory fitness. Let's look at what happened to 5,107 48-year-old men after 46 years of follow-up. Journal of the American College of Cardiology - 2018 Clausen J, et al. Midlife Cardiorespiratory Fitness and the Long-Term Risk of Mortality. J Am Coll Cardiol. 2018 Aug, 72 (9) 987–995. https://lnkd.in/ed3GqPzR • VO₂ max definition: In that study, cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with the VO₂ max value, value that refers to the maximum amount of oxygen your body can absorb and use during exercise. It measures your aerobic fitness levels. • Average VO₂ max values: Average untrained adult → 40 mL/kg/min Trained adult (Marathon in 4 hours) → 50-55 mL/kg/min Eliud Kipchoge’s (Marathon in 2 hours) → 90 mL/kg/min • In the study, they made 4 groups based on VO2 max values: -Lowest (5%) -Low normal (45%) -High normal (45%) -Highest (5%) • A total of 5,107 men with a mean age of 48.8 ± 5.4 years were included in the study. • During the 46 years of follow-up, 4,700 (92%) men died; 2,149 (42.1%) of the men died of cardiovascular disease. • Compared with below the lower limit of normal CRF, low normal CRF was associated with 2.1 years (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.7 to 3.4; p = 0.002), high normal with 2.9 years (95% CI: 1.5 to 4.2; p < 0.001), and above the upper limit of normal with 4.9 years (95% CI: 3.1 to 6.7; p < 0.001) longer mean life expectancy. #healthcare #longevity #sports

La biblio autour de la VO2max est très intéressante, à se demander pourquoi elle n’entre pas dans les calculs de risque en prévention primaire tel que le SCORE2, puisqu’il s’agit d’un facteur de risque modifiable et indépendant
