Are there certain things that you have held onto over the years?  They add to the clutter, but for some reason or another you can’t let go?  For me it’s samples and fabric I collected over the years when I ran Susan Daniels, Inc, my accessory brand. I definitely sold, donated and tossed a good deal, but the scarves, hair accessories and fabrics I have saved bring back so many memories–an order from a special store, a production challenge we solved or simply a reminder of the years I spent designing.  I loved the challenge of taking a piece of fabric, a ribbon or some gorgeous trim and turning it into something beautiful that would potentially grace the shelves of dept stores and small boutiques worldwide.  My current work consulting with brands, many of which are in the retail space, brings me back constantly to my Susan Daniels days.  I find sharing stories and challenges help me connect with my clients in a way that is genuine and beneficial.  I truly understand the ups and downs that go into running a small business and can draw on my own experiences to offer support and create effective growth strategies based on actual experience.  One look at my old fabric, headbands and design notebooks and I am back in the fashion world–ready to help others like me succeed. For me, my founder’s story is rooted in my passion for te ao Māori and my desire to share that with as many people as possible. But it’s also about something more profound—helping our people realise their potential by reconnecting with te ao Māori. My journey is about more than just building a business. It’s about creating a space where our people can thrive, heal, and grow through cultural reconnection. And thirdly, it’s about building a lifestyle for me and my whānau where we can serve our people and live our values.
