✨A must watch: It Ends With Us!🌸 As a psychologist, watching the recent movie "It Ends With Us" was a deeply emotional experience that resonated on both a professional and personal level. The film, adapted from Coleen Hover's bestselling novel, intricately weaves together themes of love, trauma, and the often devastating cycle of abuse. What struck me most was how accurately it portrayed the complex psychological dynamics that play out in abusive relationships, making it a significant piece for both raising awareness and fostering empathy! One of the core elements of the movie that stood out to me was its exploration of the "cycle of abuse". Ryle, one of the main characters, epitomizes the duality that is so often seen in abusers- a loving, charismatic exterior that hides a more sinister, violent nature. This portrayal is crucial in understanding why so many individuals find it difficult to leave abusive relationships. It’s not just about the violence; it’s about the conflicting emotions, the love, the memories, and the hope that things might change. The film does a remarkable job of showing how someone can be torn between the love they feel and the reality of the harm they are experiencing. For me, "It Ends With Us" is more than just a film; it’s a call to action. It challenges viewers to look beyond the surface and consider the often-hidden realities of abusive relationships. The movie serves as a powerful reminder of the courage it takes to break free from these cycles and the importance of offering support and understanding to those who are going through such experiences. Breaking the cycle is very important. Healing is definitely a choice. Both Lily and Ryle were trapped in their traumatic past. But Lily chose to end the cycle and break free. As a psychologist, I see it as an empowering and vital tool for raising awareness and I believe it’s a must-watch for anyone interested in understanding the complexities of human relationships and the incredible resilience of the human spirit. Also in our lives, let's muster the courage and break the cycle. It surely ends with us!🙌🏻 #psychology #mentalHealth #domesticviolenceawareness #moviereview #ItEndsWithUs

Thank you TODAY and Renald Loh for featuring our organisation! In the article, our Co-founder & Clinical Director, James Chong, discussed on the phenomenon of "rosy retrospection," where individuals remember past events more positively than they were. He explained that this cognitive bias can provide emotional comfort but may also hinder personal growth if overindulged. James also emphasized the importance of balancing nostalgia with present-focused activities, suggesting goal-setting, cultivating strong relationships, and practicing mindfulness as ways to stay grounded and forward-looking. https://lnkd.in/gezcxG9e
Rosy retrospection is a #cognitivebias where our minds tend to recall past events more positively than they actually were, writes TODAY journalist Renald Loh, who spends hours reminiscing and reliving past memories. But why do our brains go there in the first place? For this edition of Gen Zen, he spoke to the following experts: ➡ James Chong, co-founder and clinical director at The Lion Mind ➡ Priscilla Shin, principal psychotherapist at RANGE Counselling Services

My approach is highly rational, no 'fluff', no clichés, and it is solution-oriented. In theoretical terms, my practice is built upon the pillars of Authenticity (being completely yourself) The Inner Voice (your gut instinct), and The Face to Face Encounter (we meet in person and have real contact). I've studied and lectured at the University of Cambridge (Freud and Heidegger), and I have developed a unique method that really works. In my sessions, we explore everything from everyday concerns to profound existential questions, creating opportunities for greater self-understanding and insight into our place in the world. I treat my clients’ circumstances as if they were my own, and work with diligence, compassion, and complete discretion, to bring them to higher ground. “It’s bordering irresponsible to let the process be so slow when the waiting lists for mental health assistance are so long,” states Henrik Haaland Jahren, chief psychologist and founder of Braive when he was featured on Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) earlier this week. While there are challenges with advanced language models, we need a balanced discussion on their potential to solve societal challenges and improve quality of life. At Braive, we’ve just launched a new automated feature for case notes that can significantly cut down administrative time for clinicians. If you’re curious about this feature, check out this demo page: https://lnkd.in/dW56ViTA You can watch the full NRK segment here: https://lnkd.in/d5DAv4bQ

People pleasing is a learned behavior that typically develops early in life as a survival tactic. We learn that prioritizing others' needs can help us stay safe and maintain relationships. And it does work, but here's the catch: when we become people pleasers, we also learn to disregard our own wants and needs. In this simple exercise, practicing a "want-to" versus "need-to" assessment, will help you start exploring what truly matters to you. This helps you take charge of what really matters to you and actively seeking to meet you core needs. Not only they never loved you and never will, but they'll happily throw you to the beasts that will happily devour you. They'll ruthlessly destroy you and blame you for that. Only in the brutal ending you'll understand this. 🙏 Do yourself a favor: don't let them put the end. It will NOT be a happy end. I know, the #lovebombing and #futurefaking and #devaluation built the strong #traumabond that keeps you intoxicated and addicted to the #narcissist. And if you have educated yourself about #narcissism, you know what's the last scene of this horror show: the #discard. Breaking the #traumabond seems impossible but it is not. It is hard, it is painful but it is something you can do. You need psychological and emotional support from a loving circle (e.g. friends, family) and a psychologist who knows well #narcissism. Book an online session with me if you need psychological help and support. I'm Efi Mesitidou, bilingual Psychologist offering online sessions in Greek or English. If you are troubled or suffer in an intimate relationship, family, workplace, send me a message. What is #narcissism? What is a #narcissist? What is a #traumabond? What is #narcissisticabuse? What is #gaslighting? What is #manipulation? This is where I focus. So, follow me for more information on these issues, #healing and #healthyrelationships.
