The Trade-Off of China's Extended May Day Holiday: In China, the May Day holiday can extend to a full 5-day break, but this comes with a catch: to create this "Golden Week," employees have to give up their weekends before and after the holiday. It seems many of my colleagues and friends aren’t in favor of this arrangement. What’s your view? Do you prefer: 🔹 1: I support the extended holiday! Today, as the bright colours of Holi filled the air, I couldn't help but think about how I feel about the festival. I began to wonder if any of you have had a similar change in your opinions as you've gotten older🙄 I remember how happy I was when I was a kid celebrating Holi. I remember how excited I was to get up early with water guns, balloons and colours, ready to take on the world. The best parts of my year were the laughter, the chaos, and the struggle we went through in removing the colours we enjoyed putting on each other's faces. But today, as I watched the celebrations from my balcony, I realised that I no longer wanted to be a part of them. 🔫🎨 I couldn't help but wonder: Did any of you feel the same way? Did you find yourself hesitating to join in the revelry, or did you embrace the festival with the same enthusiasm as always? I want to know if this shift in opinion is something that others have also felt. I feel it's okay to change and grow, and to rethink how you feel about habits and customs. It's not necessary to always feel the same way about something just because we loved it in the past. We learn more about ourselves through life, and sometimes that means letting go of things that don't make us feel good anymore. I get to work with really smart, funny, and creative people, and it makes coming to work fun. I also enjoy the wide range of projects I work on, from transportation to water to planning. It keeps my day-to-day interesting, and I learn a lot about various topics. 🧡 What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities outside of work? Outside of work, I love going to concerts. It doesn’t matter what genre of music, I am willing to go. I have six concerts lined up this year, and hopefully, we will add more to the list. 🧡 Can you tell us about a memorable moment or event you've experienced while working here? I will never forget the opening of the West Davis Highway. After years of working on a project and working so hard to put together an opening event, it was amazing to see the event happen and how many people came out to celebrate the opening. In the crowd, I could see the faces of people I had talked to throughout the years, and it was like we had finally made it to the other side. 🧡 What do you appreciate most about the company culture and values? TLG is really flexible. They work with you and make having a work-life balance attainable. Plus, everyone is fun to work with.
