I started sailing only 2 years ago. learning a new skill is one of the most rewarding things that you can do for your brain's health.
I have only done 3 races on the helm and on the last one I got 3rd place!!!! I'm still very clunky on the helm. There are millions things in processing , leaning and exucting at speed during the race. The wind and current is unpredictable. I don't gave 20 years of wisdom on my side to know how the weather shifts and and what startegies I need to use to get optimal outcome.
Recently I did my biggest sail, through rain and sunshine across Tasman sea...alongside dolphins and whales all the way from Sydney to Port Stephens and back. wow! what an exhilarating adventure it was.
learning to sail is a little bit like building a company. I have the best skipper teaching me million different skills from his years of experience and extent engineering expertise.
Don't be afraid to do something that you have never done. You have the ability to learn it if you commit to it. It would take years to master is but sure will be worth it.
Sailing a little bit like finance and tech and the challenges of being a male dominated industry across professional and non professional sailors.
My work with sailing Australia has been extremely rewarding in working as part of the adivosry board on diversity equity and inclusion agenda.
a lot of work needs to be done to make sailing accessible and welcome for all groups in our society...
I'd say, if you have wanted to sail , call you local club and get into it!!! it great way to disconnect and be present with yourself in nature...
