🚴♂️ When Smart Marketing Meets a Cultural Moment 📰💡 I recently came across one of the cleverest examples of newsjacking this year, courtesy of an Irish firm, Larkin Engineering. They jumped on the recent buzz around ridiculous government spending in Ireland (a €320k bike shelter/boondoggle at Leinster House, check it out) and turned it into a humorous, impactful and perfectly timed ad for their own bike shelter solutions. This isn't exactly an everyday product with an everyday wide audience, so breaking through the noise on social media to build awareness or generate leads is hard fought, I'd imagine. This ad/post was a true slingshot event, netting over 278k impressions, 4.4k likes, and 900+ shares to date —numbers far, far beyond their typical reach. This shows the power of being quick on your feet with marketing—jumping on a moment and delivering a message that’s both timely and relevant (with a cheeky wink thrown in). ✈ Later this week, I’ll get to see the world’s largest bottle of catsup. (Ketchup? Catsup? Is there a difference?) When I learned that I’d be speaking at Reaching Forward South in Collinsville, Illinois, I Googled the area. That’s how I discovered the city is home to a 170-foot water tower shaped like a catsup bottle that just happens to be on the National Registry of Historic Places. I made a plan to visit, of course. A plan, on vacation or in the library, sets clear goals and outcomes. And #LibraryMarketing works best when the promotions are tied to a library’s overall strategic plan. The home stretch. We pulled together a 200 person Marketing event in Vermont. All in-house with the Exit Five team. The amount we have learned as a team just by putting this event on over the last 6 months is incredible. Of course, I want the event next week to be a hit. But I can already see the ROI because of how our team has come together and worked their asses of to pull this event off. I believe in getting to know your teammates, going for coffee, and all that -- but I really believe that the best team bonding and chemistry comes from shared work. Doing something together. Making mistakes. Learning together. Getting frustrated together. Solving problems together. Doing the work together. That's how you build team chemistry. See you at Drive next week? PS. The amount of non-marketing details we're in the weeds on right now between stickers, badges, signs, lanyards, hotels, cars, bands, food... So much learning. It's awesome to see.
