WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS??
Let's jump right in.....
Are organizations simply stating that they are operating on Native Land and then just going about their days like it's business as usual? Are they actually doing anything to support or pay back First Nations communities for the land on which they are profiting/gaining/progressing as a non-First Nation community?
It's like waking up and declaring that your house in built on First Nation land, and then sipping your Starbucks coffee and then going about your day. Meanwhile First Nations communities continue to fall forgotten and neglected.
Land acknowledgements are nice and all, but it really shouldn't be all that we do to show First Nations communities that we are actually trying to reconcile. Orange shirts and morning workplace mantras don't create change. Continuing with progressive actions toward partnerships and decision making processes is the only real way to reconcile with our First Nations communities.
I don't think there is a First Nation community in the world that goes to bed feeling better about their situation just because we said our Land Acknowledgements at work today.
I mean, how many times will you listen to someone say they're sorry without doing anything real to show it, before you stop believing them?
Just a thought.
Hashtag who are we fooling?
Hashtag we can do better.

2moSuch a great idea, I’ve seen these communities right after. The CM’s and their staff take so much pride in this!
