No Pain, No Gain: Not everyone qualifies as Talent In Greek, we say “τα αγαθά κόποις κτώνται,” meaning “good things come to those who work hard.” This philosophy reflects an essential truth: results are earned through effort, perseverance, and determination. There are two types of people in the workplace. First, those who know what needs to be done and can eloquently communicate it—often in inspiring ways. Second, those who understand not just what to do but how to execute and deliver. I personally favor the latter. These are the people who move the needle, get things done, and propel businesses forward. The former may have valuable insight, but without action, insight is simply knowledge—useful, yet stagnant. When we talk about “talent” in the workplace, I believe it’s essential to be precise. Not everyone qualifies as talent. Talent, in my view, refers to individuals who possess or have the potential for high performance. This is especially critical for young professionals entering the workforce. So, what makes someone a talent at the entry level? The answer goes beyond intelligence or education. It’s about the habits they’ve developed—habits that strengthen their mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical endurance. A true talent is someone who is willing to put in the work, who understands that success is earned through consistent effort, resilience, and discipline. To me, talent is not simply about capability; it’s about commitment to growth, even in the face of challenges.
