Every child has a fundamental right to quality education. But in times of global crisis, the educational needs of marginalized children are often neglected. Our 2024 Education Development laureates — Mark Jordans, Marwa Zahr, and Luke Stannard — represent the team behind ‘Can’t Wait to Learn’, an intervention seeking to close that gap across eight countries. Through digital technology and culturally relevant content, children can learn to read and count at their own pace. We recently sat down with the team to learn more about the intervention and how they ensure its long-term sustainability. All children matter, all children should have an education. Huge overhaul of the SEND system is needed urgently. So many of the experts I follow are all saying the same and more importantly parents and carers are crying out for the education system to be inclusive for all. The appointments, reports, telephone calls, research required just for your child to receive the support they need is not acceptable. Putting children through appointment after appointment with various specialists, going over and over their challenges, does have a huge detrimental impact on their mental wellbeing. Urgent action required!! 🚨 Lets talk about, celebrate their talents and strengths! 🙏. #neurodiversityawareness #education #SENDReform #allchildrenmatter #inclusion #inclusiveeducation
I’ve been hiding a huge secret for 255 days; and I feel a great deal of shame and embarrassment about it. Today is the day I come clean! #TheJoshieMan desperately needs your help today! He has been out of school since September last year! 💔 For our family (and most importantly TJM) it has been catastrophic, and this year without education will be one he will never get back. How could this happen? I had to remove him from his old school who were not meeting his needs, and there was simply no other specialist provision available to him locally. However, this is not (and never has been) about TJM. I'm a privileged, middle class, well-educated white male in an affluent area/country. What about others without these privileges? The official statistics record 35,000 children/young adults with additional needs not in education in the UK. Beneath the statistics are many more 1000s who have a provision in name only and never attend as it's inadequate for their needs. The system is broken. Let's go slow here. THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN. Children with additional needs are being pervasively failed on a massive scale through: 👉 Insufficient number of specialist schools 👉 Lack of appropriate support in mainstream schools 👉 Inadequate funding to schools to actually deliver an education that the kid deserves Let's take TJM as an example, and finally say together, what should be a self-evident truth: ALL KIDS DESERVE A GOOD EDUCATION. Children with additional needs are #DifferentNotLess. Who is with me today? ⁉ PS: Tell me in the comments your own experiences of where the education system has failed your kids. Also, what needs to change to give these kids their fundamental human rights; tag in those amazing people who are fighting the good fight and trying to #ChangeTheWorld

Today is the International Day of Education, a day established to celebrate and highlight the importance of education in our society. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d8raCig While having access to education is paramount and a basic human right, there are many people around the world, who do not have access to a school or a teacher. Millions of children are out of school and many more adults are #illiterate. Things are changing, as all over the world younger generations are more literate than their parents and grandparents but there is still much room for improvement. As for the #gendergap in #education, while it is closing – we can observe a significant change in the last decade, even in #European countries, it still exists. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gy45gCyP https://lnkd.in/dyhNCMw9. https://lnkd.in/dZzPf3Ba According to UNESCO, Today, 250 million children and youth are out of school, and 763 million adults are illiterate. When such a basic right is violated, it's time to transform education! This year's theme is education for lasting peace. Education gives us the tools to broaden our horizons, develop a better understanding of the world around us, to understand and accept others, thereby empowering us to serve as catalysts for #peace in our communities. Ensuring access to education for all is a responsibility we have towards each other as a global community and the International Day of Education is a day to reflect and to spark discussions on how to make this a reality. #EducationDay #educationday20 #accesstoeducation #EducationMatters #JournéeDeLÉducation #Evnia_CSR #ToStriveToSeekToFind #Evnia_Filotimo #education #educationforall #educationequity

Writing for Education 2030 UN, Simon Sommer, our Co-CEO, argues that the solution to achieving SDG4- quality education- lies in embracing a culture of listening. Governments and Foundations should collaborate by bringing together public and private partners to make a real difference in children's education around the world. Read more about this ‘open door’ approach and why we should all embrace a culture of listening: https://bit.ly/4aZ7KtZ #LeadingSDG4 #Education #SDG4 #TransformingEducation

October 18 marks a significant day in the history of education, as various important milestones are celebrated around the world. This date has seen numerous transformative events that have shaped the educational landscape as we know it today. One of the key milestones is the founding of the first public school in the United States, the Boston Latin School, in 1635. As the oldest existing school in America, it has set a precedent for public education, emphasizing the importance of accessible learning for all children. Another notable event on October 18 is the introduction of the Education Act 1944, also known as the Butler Act, in the United Kingdom. This legislation reformed the education system by making secondary education free and accessible to all children, thereby laying the groundwork for a more egalitarian society. The Act also led to the establishment of the tripartite system of secondary education, which included grammar schools, secondary modern schools, and technical schools. In more recent history, October 18, 2006, saw the launch of the Global Campaign for Education's 'Global Action Week.' This international effort has been instrumental in advocating for the right to quality education for everyone, particularly focusing on marginalized groups and promoting literacy and lifelong learning. These milestones highlight the ongoing evolution and importance of education in society. As we celebrate these achievements on October 18, it serves as a reminder of the continual progress needed to ensure education remains inclusive, equitable, and adaptable to the challenges of the modern world. #milestonesineducationhistory #educationhistory #BostonLatinSchool #ButlerAct1944 #EducationForAll #GlobalActionWeek #EducationReform #AccessibleLearning

👍Good news: More children than ever are in school 👎Bad news: Many are not mastering basic skills In a new report, my colleagues Emma Dorn Jacob Bryant Felipe Child Ezgi Demirdag Saydag Stephen Hall Kartik Jayaram Charag Krishnan Cheryl Lim Kemi Onabanjo Frédéric Panier Pierre Vigin Juan Rebolledo Jimmy Sarakatsannis Doug Scott Seckin Ungur Emmy Liss and I researched 14 school systems that are beating the odds and interviewed over 200 industry leaders to find out what’s working and how to scale improvements. Our conclusion? If all systems globally applied the lessons from these successful systems, as many as 350 million children could be lifted out of learning poverty by 2050. So how do we do it? We outline a set of 4 reinforcing strategies that can help create a virtuous cycle for long-term, outsized improvements in student learning. I hope you’ll read them here: https://lnkd.in/d_rqqseT #education #school #students #schoolsystems

There is something SERIOUSLY WRONG today, as we celebrate #TJM’s first day back in school after a YEAR OF NO EDUCATION. Here is how YOU can #ChangeTheWorld for other similar kids TODAY. We are living through a national scandal. According to the Department for Education, during the last academic year, 117,000 kids in the UK were “missing” education. (That's the size of a city!!) Hold that thought for a minute. Then look at the picture of #TJM below. 10,000's of kids with #AdditionalNeeds are denied an appropriate education just because they are different. Just. Because. They. Are. Different. #DifferentNotLess. 👂I'm all ears!..........Please help today in informing society as to the most pressing topics in #Education that kids with additional needs face. As a starter, here are eight themes we've all been hearing recently (see comments), but of course, I've missed important topics, and I've not reflected each topic comprehensively. 💕 We need change today! Please tag in those people who have voices that should be heard, and those who are doing great things to help inform the debate. 💁♀️ Please tag in those people who are being failed and might need some community support. ⁉️PS: Help us fill in the gaps, and prioritise what needs to change! We need your comments today! #Neurodiversity #AutismEmpowerment #SEND
