𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 Hello everyone! As the fall season approaches, it’s not only back-to-school season, but also time for Institute for Youth in Policy's annual Journal of Policy Analysis publication! The deadline to sign up is 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟑, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒. Shortly after, we will choose 6 authors in total to be featured in this journal. Out of the 6 slots, we will choose 𝗼𝗻𝗲 external submission from someone not in YIP to participate. The requirements for each submission are: • 20 Typed Pages (including footnotes/bibliography). • Double space, Size 12, Times New Roman. • The paper can cover various policy topics (economic policy, criminal justice, environmental policy, etc.) You will NOT be expected to have said paper by September 2; the deadline for that will be discussed with the chosen individuals. By signing up for this, you will gain: • Valuable experience in policy research and writing that will stand out on college applications. • A publication credit with a reputable journal to bolster your resume and LinkedIn profile. • The opportunity to work closely with experienced editors and mentors to refine your analytical skills. • The chance to contribute to meaningful policy discussions and influence future policymakers. • Exposure to a wide readership, allowing you to highlight the journal's reach and impact on your resume or college applications. • The chance to have your work seen by professionals and academics in the policy field, which can lead to networking opportunities and potential references. Vote for us at the Institute for Youth in Policy at the following links: https://lnkd.in/ex-xb_gT and https://lnkd.in/eJQb6JxZ Session description: In times of heightened polarization, how do students navigate educational demands while fostering proactive civic engagement? 2 college freshmen, 1 Muslim and 1 Jewish, propose a solution: co-curricular activities made for students, by students, to encourage thoughtful reflection around today’s most polarized topics, especially Israel-Palestine. In our session, attendees will preview the Institute for Youth in Policy's activities designed to equip students with techniques to 1) detect biased coverage and 2) express their thoughts about Israel-Palestine while listening to others' perspectives.

🌐 Announcing the Institute for Youth in Policy's 2023-24 Annual Report🌐 As we close another successful chapter at YIP, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and pride for the incredible milestones we've achieved this past year. Our efforts to educate, engage, and empower the next generation of leaders have brought to life our core approaches in more dynamic ways than ever before. As a part of our work, we bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and tangible action in an academic way, and ensure our now well over 700 fellows are not only knowledgeable about policy challenges but also equipped to take decisive actions. Our vision is to establish America's largest network of young innovators who are at the forefront of policy innovation and civic engagement, influencing policy across public, private, and educational sectors. This year also marked the launch of several key initiatives that further solidify our commitment to impactful, real-world applications of our fellows' learnings. The establishment of the Center for Civic Growth focuses on nurturing civic-minded youths and providing them with the necessary tools and resources to drive positive change. Our core approach to impact is driven by our three E's: Educate, Engage, and Empower. We educate through rigorous research opportunities and constructive debates. We engage our students by applying their knowledge in real-world settings. We empower them by preparing them to be leaders who enact change. I am immensely thankful to our amazing exec team: Connor Cowan, Carlos Bindert, Mason Carlisle, Mollie Guba, Eli Solomon, Taekyong (Taek) K., Gwen Singer, Sia Ratwani, as well as all the fellows, alumni, staff, partners, and supporters who keep the Institute running. 🍎 Attention educators! YIP now wants to bring our curriculum to your classroom! For the past two years, the YIP's Education Department has been developing a nonpartisan, discourse-based high school civics curriculum to combat political polarization and a lack of youth civic engagement. 🗣️ Starting in the 2024-25 school year, we hope to officially launch our curriculum in classrooms with a cohort of educators piloting our activities and sharing teacher and student feedback, ultimately allowing us to improve our resources to better support classrooms. YIP's discourse-based activities are backed by research showing quantifiable positive effects on students' topic comprehension, understanding of other political perspectives, and motivation to be civically engaged. We presented these findings in the only student-led session out of the 300+ sessions at The College Board's 2023 AP Annual Conference. 📊 We offer eight curriculum units spanning a range of policy areas and supplemental current events resources, tackling some of today's most challenging societal issues. We will also host virtual summer workshops with our partner organizations to engage directly with cohort members and share teacher-and-student-focused resources from our curriculum. To support pilot programs, we will provide stipends of up to $500 to each educator, funded by a grant from the Riley's Way Foundation Call for Kindness!
