It's been almost 10 years since I took the 10% Pledge with Giving What We Can
What is it? A public commitment to donate 10% of your income to effective charities for the rest of one's life.
Why did I do it? I am privileged in many ways and donating 10% of my income will make a huge difference to 1000s of people, with little impact on my day-to-day living. Feels like a no-brainer!
How does it feel? Although I didn't do it for selfish reasons, donating 10% of my income has given me sense of pride and achievement. No matter what else I do with my life, I have donated ten's of thousands of pounds to charities that are considered some of the most effective in the world. I am not saying this to boast - I really am privileged in many ways (e.g. having frugal mindset) so taking the pledge was not as hard for me as I imagine it is for most people.
