Addressing urban transport challenges requires innovative solutions that balance environmental sustainability and economic viability. 🚌🌱 In 2022, CETUD tasked RINA with the critical mission of exploring the feasibility of powering Dakar’s bus fleet using locally sourced biofuels.   Our collaboration led to an in-depth analysis of Senegal's biofuel potential, emphasizing sustainability and local resource utilization. The study identified Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) as a prime candidate for biomethane production, offering a circular economy model and significant emissions reduction benefits.   Proposing a phased approach, we've outlined plans for an industrial-scale facility capable of powering over 1,000 buses annually, with an annual production of approximately 24 million m³ of biomethane.   This initiative underscores our commitment to sustainable urban transport solutions, driving circularity and reducing environmental impact.   Read more about it in my article for RINA Go Zero magazine 📖 https://lnkd.in/eePYZpwG

Berry Global slashed Scope 3 GHG emissions, achieving a 21% reduction compared to 2019 figures, as it progresses towards a 25% reduction target by 2025. In 2023, Berry Global significantly boosted its use of renewable electricity by 65%, notably transitioning all its operations in Mexico to wind and solar power. The company is also working alongside the Science Based Targets initiative to establish new emissions targets for Scope 1 and 2, which will be revealed in due course. Furthermore, the company has prioritized workforce development, increasing the average training hours per employee from 54 to 58. As I was doing my project on Renewable Energy Technologies that could be adopted by small scale dairy farmers to facilitate milk cooling at farm level, I was happy to see a farmer in my home country who embraced the use of biogas to facilitate milk cooling at her farm. Adoption of renewable energy is a game changer in our dairy value chain in terms of achieving the three pillars of sustainability (People, Planet and Profit)
